lame beats

...and dammit - I agree. All I can do is write in with notes of enthusiasm and support after seeing Avril Lavigne and Motley Crue make more than a few appearances on the list.

Here's the top 10:
Limp Bizkit "Nookie"
Kelly Osbourne "Shut Up"
Metallica "St. Anger"
Avril Lavigne "Sk8r Boi"
Warrant "Cherry Pie"
David Cassidy "I Think I Love You"
Sheryl Crow "Sweet Child Of Mine"
Hole "Gold Dust Woman"
Crazy Town "Butterfly"
Vanilla Ice "Ice, Ice Baby"

However, Vanilla Ice is still dreamy. Also surprised not to see "Unskinny bop" or "I knew the bride when she used to rock-n-roll"..two of history's worst compositions.

I must be weird (imagine that)... I really like a few of those songs. My 11-year old is learning to play St. Anger on the drums as we speak, and any child of the 80s has at least one fond memory of Cherry Pie. Oh well...I guess I can live with being an oddball. ;)

edit: when I looked at the rest of the list, I got a tear in my eye...Journey is lame? le sigh

Worst songs: anything by Buffy St. Marie (at least if she's singing it)

you're not odd, Laurie, LOL. These songs are classically lame..as in you just can't help sing along with most of them (but you hate yourself for it). I won't comment on St.Anger ;-)

The Ketchup song, the hampster song (anything with "song" in the title basically)..then there's the wedding classics like Cotton Eyed Joe (Lord help us all). The difference is: those people KNOW their stuff sucks. To be truly lame you have to THINK you're cool.

Check outFromage 04 for tips from the pros.

and the electric slide oh and of course don't forget that ever popular CHICKEN DANCE!

Laurie...I too am a child of the 80 but will 6 older siblings I have had to experience just about everything from Deep Purple to Lawerence Welk, I can't see how so many 80's songs could be considered lame, my daughter just found that era of music and is NUTS over it. oh well

I told the DJ at our wedding that if he played the Chicken Dance, he wasn't getting paid

A bit dated, but anything by Donovan (Jennifer, Juniper)or Bob Dylan (Lay,lady,Lay)was abysmal.

good for you, Spaz. And I'd take it up a notch and ask anyone to leave who even requested it (that and a list of other "dont even think about it" songs I'd have previously prepared).

Donovan's "Catch the Wind" is a pretty good piece; Dylan's "Like a Rolling Stone" was just voted the best rock song of all time somewhere.

There were 2 songs they played in the mid to late 90's, don't know the names off hand...but the words were...

"eenie weenie teenie weenie shriveled little short short man"

and a song about sticking things in your butt. Actually played on the radio...very odd.
07/22/2005 02:11:30 PM · #18
the radio version was "short short man" but the actual song lyrics were "short d*ck man".....Ugh. Shouldn't be legally audible.

Donovan I won't argue with. But Bob Dylan?

Stopping and checking PC ... 404 Bob Dylan tracks ... and another 400 covers of Bob Dylan songs. Maybe I've overdone it!

No Michael Jackson on the lame list? No Village People? No Lipps Inc.?

RollingStone Magazine Top 500. Maybe its a bit of bias and got something to do with the 'rolling stone'. The second song on the list is Satisfaction by ... The Rolling Stones.

I think you've hit on an excellent strategy there. I thnk I'll name my next band the Times of New York; maybe our first hit will be "Variety Rag."

Blind Melon's "SOUP" made it onto Rolling Stone's Top 50 WORST Albums of All Time list so I've been on a quiet boycot of them ever since. Okay, I still buy it occassionally, but only when there's a hot chick on the cover..errr...I mean........

oh man...i like a lot of the songs that are on the "lame" list! guess i'm lame, too. y'all don't tell anyone, though...it'll be our little secret. ;)
