Eventhough I have used PS for over 10 years, I continue to learn more every day. I was up very late last night trying some techniques I've recently learned. Would really appreciate some critiques.

Cute picture.
Comments on processing: The isolation is a little to sharp, imo. A slight feather around the edge of the pup to soften it up would look more natural?
I don't know if you added the blue to the eyes, but, again imo, I think it would look better if you desaturate the highlights.
If you could list the processing you did you might get more advanced opinions and/or help with those areas. |

I used PS Extract to isolate (which I am fairly new to), I did blur the edges (twice) to try and lay her more naturally into the new BG. My biggest problem, I think, was the eyes. The light seemed to go through the pupil causing a pale blue color there. Rather than try to airbrush the pupils (which often looks very unnatural), I used a combination of sat and burn to try to get the eyes back to a more natural color. As you can see, there is still a bluish cast.
Besides those steps, I created a "dimensional" bg using a combo of burn and dodge, slightly burned pup's lil wrinkles, and the usual adjusting of curves, levels and sharpened only where needed.

I dont know if I am a huge fan of the dog just sitting in mid air. Its a cute picture, it just seems....umm....to edited or something. Now the eyes you were talking about, you can either extract or mask and use an overlay if your using PS. Then of course you can manipulate the tones by using percentage's of fill/opacity. And if your trying to soften the dog up, like the previous person says, you can either feather your extraction, create new layer style w/inner glow, or gaussian blur and erase the un-needed parts. I don't know which one would be best effective, but I'd probably go with the feathering first. |
