Occam's Razor |
Occams Razor in this case cuts in both directions and should be madatory reading for ALL memebrs on the site.
People shouldn't affirm/assume that Challenges(descriptions)can mean only one thing but on the flip side shouldn't negate all the possibilities.
Len-Thanx for the link.

After voting all entires, I can answer that: ZERO. Isn't that amazing? Lots of variations on first cars, though :-)

At least fewer entries means that mine doesn't have as far to fall when it hits bottom! ;-)

Actually, there are a number of kids pics with either the stubborn theme or the blossoming one. |

Do you think this would have done well?

A lot of good entries but I do find that I've been needing to read the titles to help fully or clearly understand their link to Independence.
Mine would fall into that category too, for most. There's a very subtle, independent strength to my image but the 5 second viewer will probably not pick it up. Unless they read the title, of course.

From A photographic point, do we need titles to see if an image is photographicly well presented,IMO independence means, be independent and enter your subject image and let the voters vote. I accidently had an extra letter in my title , and was down voted because of this, the voter said this was the reason. I find this of disrespect to the photograper, because of a typpping error

I think a lot of people confused INDEPENDENT and INDEPENDENCE. Two totally different things.

I like the concept of a no discription challenge.
It's then deffinatly a true challenge. No more complaints about the discription being vague.
Anything would truly go.
I've got to go take a shot of something. This is too great not too.

I'm seeing a pretty mixed bag of photos that I'm finding a bit confusing.
I might be wrong but it looks like some people saw this as a free study while I'm burdening myself by trying to find links to indenpdence (independent)to some of the images in any way or their opposites, even. The titles aren't getting me there either.
I hope I'm not being narrow and I am handing out some nice votes, even if people missed what I percieved to be an extremely wide mark.

I am voting along the lines of the way I interpreted this challenge. I understood that we had to shoot something denoting independence and not that we had independence in what we could shoot (free study). But that's just me and that's how I'll be voting. Shots showing independence will be receiving higher scores from the old beagle.
Now before anyone jumps down my throat for this comment, think. The challenge title was independencewhich, as the variety of images show, could be interpreted quite a few ways. There was also no challenge descriptor. This means that voters have just as much freedom (indpendence) in interpreting the submitted images as the photographers did when they captured them. Photographers were free in determining what the challenge meant to them and submitted accordingly. As an independent voter, I am free to assign a score to the image as per my interpretation of this challenge. Complete independence, get it?
I just wonder if this was the point of this challenge all along?
So, in effect, no one is right, no one is wrong. Every image is valid. Every point of view and every score you receive is valid. It'll be interesting to see what comes out on top but I won't speculate on the outcome so that I don't affect your independence

I wonder if it is because the deadline was on a Saturday - Had it been tonight Sunday -might have made a difference in the amount. I would have cropped mine had I the time, but my husband was not happy spending Saturday waiting for me to pick a shot, edit etc.so it was a rush job. This morning I cropped a copy just to see the result - Big difference. oh well. . .Mine won't go over well with the linear thinkers anyway ;-) A race for the brown! yee ha |

I got a comment that my picture was not independence, and while it may not have been red white and blue fourth of july independence I thought I photographed something that was independent...oh well, I guess it's hard with a vauge topic. You can't please everybody. |

OK I've voted on 59% and commented on 51% so far but I am having difficulty linking some with challenge! Not voting down for this as it is such a vague challenge. Interesting to see how people defined independence. Many obvious red, white and blue which is not an immediate grab for non - USA voters, and some real heart grabbers with children! The quality in a few pic is VERY good! Worth commenting as it is helping me a lot with my own pics!

I took this for the challenge, but thought it wasn't "Independence" enough so I didn't submit. I still like it though (biased of course).

I really like that pic, puts a little smile on my face. I love the sin coming down on them and the antique coloring to it. I think it shows gaining independence. |

That's a great...no, beautiful image and perfect color treatment. I'd say it met or fit the challenge better than much of what I saw and unique as well. I would have given you a 10 without question.
