One thing I did find out that I wasnt exactly happy with is that if you submit images for the magazine and they do not get chosen they can be put on the CD that comes with the magazine. You do not get paid for those images. I didnt check the format they put them on the CD but the thought of my images being put on CD and distributed to everyone who buys that magazine was a little offputting, especially if they can copy them to their computer and do whatever they want with them.

What size are the images on the CD? Are they web-sized (like on DPC) or significantly larger?

Many congratulations to you! This is certainly a wonderful opportunity to get some exposure (pun not intended). I feel a bit silly mentioning this, since nobody else has so far (maybe they know something I don't?)... and since you have worked so closely with Krystal and certainly have more experiencethan I do, I assume you probably would have covered this already - but do you have a model release from her? It seems like this would be necessary in a situation such as this.

Hi Manny,

Finally got an image published in the Digital Photo Mag (July edition), in the photographer of the year comp they run (close up category). First entry I've made to that comp and a 3rd place! Totally shocked....

It's a real buzz to see your stuff printed up - can't wait to see yours!

I just dragged out the CD that I had from the magazine and checked. The CD plays like a website and the images are displayed in thumbs like most web photo galleries. You can click on the image for a bigger version, which seems to be around 550-600 pixels or so on the longest size. So they are DPC size. It is possible to right click and save them, but I suppose that is similar to just right clicking from a website.

Hi Manny,

Congratulations!

Just got the Digital Photo Magazine today and you have a 3/4 page image

that is advertising the next round of the Digital Photographer of the year competition - 'Creative Portraits'.

Yet again another stunning image, do you intend to enter? I'd put some money on you as the winner if you do!!!!

The magazine must have been searching around the PBASE community as there are a couple of other photographers featured with PBASE links.

Congrats again...

Congratulations Manny,

You can get that magazine in Holland too.
I guess they will sell it in (fill in the scandinavian coutry that you are visiting right now here) too, so you can look at it yourself...

And again, it's about time that you got published!

Manny, what did you agree in the end and did you get some copies or a subscription?

Hello All!

This is a complete surprise. I never imagined it would be that fast. They asked me to send that particular photo and assured me that they would contact me before publication but up to now, no words from them. They said that everytime they featured my photo, they will pay me according to the agreed rate. I will write to them as soon as I get to Thailand. Up to now, I am still here in Scandinavia.

Anyway, thanks for informing me.

Hey Manny: your images deserve circulation and they will certainly adorn and add interest to any publication. My warmest congratulations.

Congratulations Manny. More than any money they pay you, any kind of publication like this can raise the eyebrows of people you never expected or thought of, and could possibly lead to more published work.

However, I feel like beating you senseless that you are not shooting in RAW and saving the largest files you possibly can!! If anyone's work needs to be saved long term in big files, it's yours. Don't make me fly there and give you a pounding! Enough with the tiny files, you're WAY too good for that!!

Headed out today to pick up a copy. Again, congrats!!

Manny, congratulations and I hope you worked everything out! The exposure would be really nice for you and well deserved. I have always admired your work and talent.

It is really surprising who browses your galleries and images on PBase :)

I'm back from Scandinavia with over a thousand shots....mostly landscapes and seascapes and very few portraits. I love my 12-24 Sigma lens.

ANYWAY, down to business...yes, I saw the scanned version of the page where my picture was published in the Digital Photo mag. I have heard from them about two more of my pictures to be featured in their September issue (in the market by August 15). The two pics are:

I haven't received payment and complimentary issues of the magazines from them yet . I am positive it will come. But for now, getting published is more than enough as a compliment. Maybe I should be concerned with many other publication queries and copyright worries but as of now, I am just so flattered. My only other option is to have these pictures sitting in my computer so I couldn't ask for anything more.

Thanks DPC for inspiring me. These two pics are DPChallenge pictures.

I think it's just wonderful and I can't see an established magazine like this trying to stiff you - not good for business as the news would spread and they'd suddenly find it harder to source images quite so widely.
I'm sure they'll be fair with you and in the meantime - it's just AWESOME that your shots are being recognised!
