I want to buy a digital SLR, but cannot decide which. I like Canon, but Nikon is good too. at first I wanted Fujifilm FinePix S3 Pro, but its too expensive. what do you think? |

i have the d70 and i love it but if its between d70 and 20d. i have to asy 20d is more of a camrea then the d70. just think about the lenses and the brand and what you think has more things you will need for what you want with photography do some research.
good luck

It would be wise to choose the D70, that way when you upgrade to the S3 sometime in the future your lenses will be compatible and you can keep the D70 as a backup

well D70 has bogger sensor, but 20D has biggere resolution. lenses are somewere same in value and quality. features are great on both cameras, but D70 has no ISO 100. but I think it's no problem with it. both have same shutter speeds and bulb option. but D70s costs $789.00 to $999.00 and 20D - $1,139.00 to $2,200.00 body only. |

I was looking through other cameras, and found that 350D is mostly the same as 20D and costs less than D70. is it so good indeed? |

I was debating the same issue and have decided, thanks to the folks in this thread, to go d70. The main reason is that I am to understand they are fairly close in performance and I'm too poor to go for the 20d--college is 'spensive! |

Depends a little on what you're shooting - the 20D earns big points with me for much higher FPS (3 vs. 5 may not sound much but it is!) and my personal experience with both is that the 20D's focusing has a big edge on the D70.
Both of those factors matter to me because they make a big difference to wildlife photography. In the studio there's much less to choose between the two, and the price has more of an impact.
They're both cracking cameras, and you wont go far wrong with either!

I don't know too much about the D70, but one thing I really like on my 20D is the ability to bump up the ISO without introducing noise. I can't afford the really fast lenses, but I can sometimes compensate by increasing my ISO. It's not uncommon for me to shoot at an ISO of 800. I can do this with a lot of assurance that I won't be introducing much noise.
If money is an issue, buy the less expensive setup. Don't go into debt for a hobby. |

The d70 is right along with the 20d (20d is a bit faster, but the d70 has better a better flash system, among other things) -- the 2MP difference doesn't mean anything.
The 350xt is more along the lines of the d50.

It's all abut the glass.... you'll own the same glass much longer than you'll own the same camera.... so check out who makes the best glass...and chose accordingly.
enjoy your 20d! |

An extra two fps is not "a bit" faster, it's significantly faster. Depends what you want of course, not everyone needs 5 fps.

This question was asked recently: //www.dpchallenge.com/forum.php?action=read&FORUM_THREAD_ID=224785 and included a link to a fairly comprehensive review - //www.kenrockwell.com/tech/20dd70.htm. I've been perfectly happy with the d70. |
