Can someone give me a run thru on the correct sequence for getting a photo ready for use? I know to first make a duplicate, then what? Do I apply sharpening, filters or what have you, or should I upsize it first then do all the retouch, color corrections , manipulations? What works best for you? |

Sharpening is ALWAYS last.
My workflow
RAW >adjust color balance, exposure, and saturation as part of the conversion
Crop
Clone or Healing Brush tool all dust specs, and distracting elements
Layers> levels and/or curves>more saturation or selective color or color balance to optimize the colors
Flatten image>
Unsharp Mask
Save as large TIFF
Resize, convert to 8 bit and SRGB for internet display - Save with a new unique name.

P.S. After crop, but before layers, I clone out dust specs and other distracting elements.
I figured out how to edit the first post. . . . . .

I do this:
Convert from RAW (adjusting white balance, etc.) in RawShooter Essentials
Open in PS
Make any further adjustments to colors, levels, curves, etc.
Apply any filters or actions
Final adjustment to curves or contrast if needed
USM or Smart Sharpen
Crop
Save for Web (I also resize during this step...usually saving one full size and one web size)
So far it's worked out ok for me. I like to save cropping and resizing for last so that I can work with as many pixels as possible before cutting the shot down. :o)

Thanks so much. I am trying to learn alot of this on my own and it really helps to know how people are actually doing this in reality versus theory. I know that alot of you have been thru trial and error so I trust you to know what works better than alot of text books. |
