I shot my first attempt at catching fireworks in beautiful downtown Buchanan, VA (pop. 1200 on a good day) and was able to get WAY too close! LOL Sparks were everywhere and I was right underneath them. (Not the best vantage point, which I'll try to remember next time - I had to crunch the hell out of them to get them to post on here too.) Here are a few of my shots + one from the parade earlier today.

Hope everyone's having a good weekend & evening (holiday or not)!

I will have no first fireworks to post because I did something soooooo stupid that I really hate to admit it but I will anyway. We leave to go see the fireworks at a local country club, camera.. check. camera bag..check .. tripod.. check.. Husband has everything as well. Park car in local shopping center, decide that the lighting around the shopping center is not good to shoot pictures so we decide to walk across the road and shoot the pictures from the greens. I did not feel like lugging my backpack/camera bag, so in the trunk it goes. Get all set up on the greens and I go to set my camera to all the correct settings and there is a BIG OLE E on the display... I forgot my CF card in the card reader at home.. I was so bummed out.. Vince offered to allow me to use the remote just to say I took a picture but I was pouting like a baby.
I remembered about 10 minutes into the display that my 2nd card was in my camera bag but it was it was too late.
So Vince tossed me a bone and is allowing me to edit a few. But he will post his tomorrow and I will wait until next year for my first fireworks shot and I will now be wearing a spare CF card as a necklace.
What a fashion statement!
Lessons Learned..

to shoot a single firework is easy, but to capture the whole show in a single frame isn't as easy :)

here's a shot I took on jan 01 @ 00:01 AM f22 131sec ISO 100

Good shots guys. For myself, I prefer to include some landscape into my foreworks shots to give them a bit more context. Like this:

I agree, landscape makes a fireworks shot more interesting, because it 'grounds it'. Let me take it a step further and say that fireworks which can be reflected in water, are even more dramatic, and exciting.

I would love to capture a bunch too, but my poor little town didn't have more than one going off at a time until the very end (about 3 minutes into it). LOLOL

Those are awesome fireworks pictures. I was going to take some this year on Canada Day but the scoundrels changed the day and I had to be up at 3 am for work. I doubt I will be able to get any from the Stampede grounds as the last few years they took to hiding them so no one outside of the grounds could see them.
