thanks a bunch neighbor~~Cher~~

I added this comment to your picture...

Overall this is a fine image. Composition is good and B&W works well. General technical quality is well above average and tonal range especially good.

It is likely that some reviewers will not find as strong a connection to the challenge topic as they expect and will vote it lower.

Here are two technical items for your consideration...

The lure on the table is in the best focus and the reel in the foreground is soft focused. This image would benefit if everything in the frame is in sharp focus. There are two things you can do to accomplish this. One is to shoot at a higher f/stop and longer exposure time for greater depth of field with your camera mounted on a tripod. The other is to change the central focus from the lure to a point closer to the reel so that depth of field (DOF) on both sides of that point will include both reel and lure in sharp focus. Combining both works best.

The other item is lighting balance. The image is dark on the left side of the frame. That acts as a distraction that takes away from this fine composition. Reshooting with additional lighting in that area and/or fixing lighting in that area in post processing will better balance the image.

thank you very much...its comments like yours and mesmeraj that i desperately need to improve my skills. i like that u both say what you dont like about the image AND give suggestions on how to fix or improve it. you also say what u like about it or what i did good...a bit of praise makes it all go down better. Bravo to u both..keep the comments comming!

Elli (mesmeraj),

I read a lot of the comments you made on these images and think your critiques hit the mark. They are excellent and very constructive.

Your photography is high quality as well and I hope you will bless us with more of it at DPC in the future.

always appreciate honest critiques. Have to learn somehow
Was quite surprised by the score here - thought it may have been too regional.

It's very kind of you to offer up your commets mesmeraj.

I wouldn't mind a little more help on mine:

I fear that the saturation was enough or maybe the contrast was bumped up or that the angle was a bad choice. I know it cannot possibly have the same pop as those that made the top 10, but for the subject that I chose, I'd like some pointers.

I've looked over the comments that you're giving (and your photos!) and you've got a great eye.

This is the source (unedited) image. As photos go, I prefer this one, but it didn't really scream metal to me.

If anyone has some time take a look at this one. I felt it was a great technical shot but it didn't fare as well as I hoped.

Thanks,
John

Oh, and I just noticed the updated comment from smilebig4me1x. Thanks a lot! :)

It's a recurring theme ... "Please give comments on those low scores". We all vote some images low, but few of us are prepared to explain it & risk those indignant PM's. Reminds me of Jack Nicholson: "You don't want the truth ... you can't handle the truth!"

In my Leading Lines comments, I'm trying this:
I'm afraid I gave this a 2. If you're someone who wants low scores explained, please PM me & I will add an explanation to this comment. If you're not, please ignore me & I'll shut up.

Probably will still backfire on me, but worth a try?

makes sense
after every challenge we always see people say i got an X and i dont know why because no one commented - so i am giving those people a chance to say hey, mesmeraj, tell me why *you* scored me this way. Then they willat least know why one person scored them as such.

I will try and do this every week (that i vote) if time permits.
