I've noticed that B&H has been out of stock on this item for weeks now. Does anyone know if there may be a problem or some reason to hold up stocking the grip? |

There's currently a recall out on the item. Large numbers of them are defective, some of them extremely so.

Thanks Zed, I checked Amazon and they now have some in stock. I saw that Canon posted a comment in the feedback section back in May saying they are fixing the problem. Do you think it's safe to order one? |

I have the power grip and have had no problems with it..
What might be the defect?

If you read the reviews on Amazon many people complained of it not fitting flush with the camera and coming loose too easy resulting in an error. Not sure if that is the same defect Zed was referring to though. |

Evidently there is some play between the grip and the body (even when fully tightened) that can cause the power contact between the grip and the body to become momentarily disconnected. This causes all manner of lost images, locked up cameras etc.
I don't have one, I've just heard gripes from those who do.

I haven't had a problem so far but I'll try to check again. Thanks for the memo John. |
