Okay all,
I have recently made one of the largest decision in my life...
I am going back to school to get a couple of credits so I can try to get into Medical School.

I am almost 30, and I am completely unsatisfied / unfulfilled in my current career. (Systems Analyst in State Healthcare)

I was originally a Biology major, but switched to Computer Science because it was easy... NOT because I loved it.

But my first love is, and I assume always will be, Science & Medicine.

Wish me luck as I go from here to throw my entire life upside down.

Edit:
Has anyone here done anything similar?
Any advice / experience?

Well, my career change wasn't that big, but I got a MSc and a PhD in Electrical Engineering, specialized in Biomedical Research, and after a 10-year career in research I decided I really want to work as a Clinical Physicist. Problem is, I need a degree for that, so now at age 39 I'm back to studying. Fortunately I can work as an apprentice Clinical Physicist while getting my degree, so it's not that bad.

My advice is to make the best use possible of every educational opportunity, and enjoy those moments where your experience gives you an advance to your fellow students. You know how to write reports, how to work in a team (I hope), how to organize your study, all that stuff that most other people still need to figure out on the fly.

Have fun, and good luck!

It's never too late to do what you love. Every minute is another chance to turn it all around.

Best of luck :-)

my last day at my crap job will be at the end of july. i'm throwing caution to the wind as i go back for a masters in human computer interaction.

i'm gonna be poor, but i'm going to keep teaching at the university here and hopefully scrounge up enough freelance work to keep food on the table.

good for you for taking a huge leap. i'm proud of both of us!! woot woot!

I got a bachelor's degree in R/TV Broadcasting...worked in the industry for a few months, and HATED it. I went back to school, working part time and my then-husband worked two jobs to keep us afloat so that I could do what my mom told me to do originally (damn I hate it when moms are ALWAYS right) and got my teaching certificate. The struggle was worth it. I eventually went back and got my Master's in Counseling, but was able to do that at night while teaching during the day. Follow your dreams...it is absolutely deplorable and saddening that people have to work in jobs they hate just to survive. When you finally get to have the career you love, the one that was meant for you, it's not "work" anymore. I know this for a fact. Best of luck to you and lots of positive vibes coming your way from Texas! :o)
