Welp, it's official. I'm going to get it Thursday after work. I'm getting it with the 18-70 f3.5-4.5 kit lens. I'll also be picking up the sb-600 flash after comparing the results with the results of the on-camera flash alone. That flash is awesome, seems super sturdy and got awesome reviews. It zooms with your lens focal length.

Then, I'll have a day or two to learn the camera and I'm going out to shoot my first paying gig. July 4th celebrations for a local paper then fireworks at night. I figure some nice pictures of some hot-air balloons and just regular festivities (the flash will come in handy here for fill-flash).

Which brings me to another cool topic...the newspaper. It's a local paper run by a friend of a friend. He was looking for a photographer, and we met and everything sounds good. I'll be able to pick up a couple extra bucks every weekend and get my pictures published. I'll get a press badge and some credentials to cover different events that we will discuss. I have to go meet with the editor sometime in the next few days to finalize everything and get me into their system.

Just thought I'd share. :-D

Yahoo! Congrats on the cmaera and the new gig. That sounds like a great opportunity. Good luck learning the Nikon in a day or two.

How come you're trading straight across and not upgrading? Just curious.

The d70 is an upgrade from a rebel in so many ways, it's not funny. I'd rather not get into that at this point, but in all honesty, for what I need, the d70 beats out the 20d. I strongly, strongly considered the 20d too by the way. I don't want to start a canon vs. nikon debate as I truly think either will produce excellent results in the proper hands.

After careful consideration and evaluation, the d70 is the way to go for me. I will purchase the d70, and put my focus toward acquiring some good glass for the future along with the proper accessories for weddings and portraiture.

Yeah I hear you. I was originally going to get the 17-40 f4L for my canon, then I got to thinking...but anyway, like I said...enough of that.

I bought the 75-300 f4-5.6 for my rebel, and it's decent, don't get me wrong, but will never buy cheap glass again.
