for those of you who don't know i am going to be teaching some kids in harlan photography for free.
Heres more info : Digital Development
I am having a hard time buying the cameras i need. They used to sell for about 20-25 on ebay, now they are going for 45. I simply do not have a budget for that! 500 has to cover 10 cameras, memory, batteries, recharges, printing, matts, shipping, exhibition promotion, goodness knows what else!
So my Plea: I am looking for folks that own Kodak DC3200's that they dont use anymore that they would be willing to sell to me for 20-30(incl shipping) dollars for the project. If i dont get the cameras, the kids get nothing. I am needing 8or9 more cameras!
Also if anyone has any 8 or 16mb compact flash cards they want to sell me for a buck or two (because honestly - who here can fit anything on a card that small anymore! But the kid's will be able to!) please hollar.
I really want to make this project a sucess so next time the community will back me a little better (i asked walmart for a discount on te batteries a week ago and still no reply - and walmart is literally the ONLY store in Harlan that sells rechargables [or anything for that matter]) when they see what great things these kids can do.
I am so afraid iwont get the cameras in time! Or won't be able to afford them at all!
so if you know anyone that can hook me up, please please put me in contact with them!

Each walmart has a budget for donations. Unfortunately they are hit up a lot by many organizations. they usually blow thru their budget rather quickly - so the no response is probably from that.
i know they have digital brand Nimh for $6 something for 4.
How many shots are the kids gonna take? would dollar store alkaline batts be cheaper?
Have you tried a photo store or radio shack - some free advertising in exchange for hte batts, or even offer to return the batts when you are done?
My old memory cards are all smartmedia, sorry.

we do not have a photo store or a radio shack for 2hrs drive out of this town. Walmart literally is the only store.
Thats why the kids need this so much, all there is here is a walmart and a pack of drugaddicts.

Wow I just looked in my junk drawer here and found a DC215 Zoom that looks exactly the same body as the DC3200...It is 1.3MP cam I don't know how close they are for specs. I works fine but the catch on the
AA battery drawer is fussy and don't catch sometimes. If it will work for you...it's yours.
Also I will look around for low CF cards...I think I have a ton of em...probably not all the same size in the likes of 16s 32s and 64s, Mfgs give them to us at work to test in our Handheld devices...and they end up just lying around once testing is done.
Let me know on the cam...I'll let you know what I find in the way of CF.

Hey, (I don't have any way to help), but I think I've either been there before, or been through there. Is there a park (national, state?) that is half in KY and half in WV/VA nearby? I can't remember the name of it. |

there is several starte parks close to the VA line. the closest one i can think of right now is in my town( 30 minutes from harlan,KY) its Kingdom Come state park in Cumberland KY. we are known here for our Black bear residents now. they have also brought in 3 pairs of mountain lions(cats)

No, that wasn't it. Maybe it was more of a "camping resort." I wanna say it started with a "B." It was about 25 - 30 minutes from a town that only had a Hardees. |

You're talking about Breaks Interstate Park. Beautiful location. my DH loves to go hiking there.

Breaks is it! I thought that is what it was, but when I did a search, all I got was the one in Utah.
We did some activities with a church in Cumberland about 6 years ago, or so.
Back to the regularly scheduled topic (now that karmat has her geography straightened out)
I do wish I had something else to help with. Are there any other resources that you can use? |

If you are taking monetary donations, I'd be more than happy to post thru paypal. I'm not talking much, but every little bit helps. Hope this isn't to late. Also you might try Thomas batteries on line for a donation especially if you will be doing a website for the kids. I'll check in later tonight for the paypal info. |

Karmat - that is one of the great things around here - we are completely surrounded left and right by national parks and roaming wildlife.
theres a silver lining to every cloud.

More Good News:
Just got another cam within budget! 7 to go.
Still looking for users here with kodak dc3200's they might like to get off that dust old shelf.
As a side note, the last two folks on ebay i purchased the cams from discounts or eliminated shipping for me when they heard about the cause.
So extra gold stars to ebay sellers 636keith and cowgirlandcowboy3303. Buy from them, theyrrrrre grrrrreat (rip tony the tiger!)
