"James Lamp (middle) of Winchester was eight years old when he and his brothers, six-year-old Bill (standing) and 12-year-old John, enjoyed some watermelon one hot day in the backyard of their home at 116 Purcell Ave. Ralph and Catherine Lamp and their sons lived at that address until the early 1970s. Ralph, who was the fiddle player for Patsy Cline’s band, the Kountry Krackers, submitted this photo to “Modern Photography” magazine in 1952, and it won first place.
