OK guys, help me shop. I've got an Amazon.com gift card to burn, and I'd like to get some little photo gizmo. Just to eliminate a few... I already have good camera bags, a great tripod, a Hoya circular polarizer, external flash and the Canon 50mm f/1.8.

Right now I'm thinking of a Kenko extension tube, a Bogen monopod, reflector(s), or another CF card (my 2Gb Lexar has been less than reliable). Any other suggestions or should I definitely go for one or more of these?

CF card, you can never have enough.

A 4x6 resin Lee filter...2-stop, soft edge, perhaps?

Sorry I don't have any cool suggestions for your gift card... but have you sent back your Lexar card for an update?

How about a 77mm Neutral Density filter for your 17-40mm? They're fun. Only $52.50 at B&H.

Lens Hood, Sto fen diffuser for the flash, remote shutter release, Warming filters, lens cleaning kit, walkie talkies for keeping in touch with fellow photogs (very useful at our zoo outing).

The only thing I don't already have on this list is the remote shutter release (and the Canon RC-1 is already on my Amazon wish list). Thanks for the suggestions- keep 'em coming!

Keith: the 17-40 (and 20D) belong to my office, but an ND filter is a good idea. I get some of that functionality from the polarizer.

Eddy: that #$*@& card just came back from Lexar service last month, and I already have an RMA to send it in again. The serial number isn't part of the firmware update problem group, so I'm guessing there's just some bad blocks that need to be mapped out. My only backup card is a 512Mb, so I probably should get another.

I don't think Chuck-E-Cheese will allow me to bring in the Glenlivet. Ironically, I was chomping beef jerky when I first posted this. ;-P

Beef Jerky is often found in my camera bag. It's too dam expensive to buy in the grocery stores.

Shannon, do you have a omnibounce for your flash?

There are several types: there's the plastic one for over the flash, and then there are several which are like the card trick where you tape a white card to the top (but they are plastic, and you get a little holder you fix to the flash. All very nice.

Also: how about a bellows? Or a closeup lens set? I have the closeup lens set myself--it works nicely with the 50mm 1.8 as well as my Canon 70-300 DO (since it has 58mm threads).

Or I have it: what you need is a Cokin filter system, and some fun filters!

Or last but not least, a lens baby.

Ah, but do you have a Lens Baby? What great fun it is - pure indulgence!

Flash Card(s) or Omnibounce/diffuser - unless you have a need for a D600L?

:)

LensPen. So cheap I have 3 of them. One in the photo bag, one in the car, and one at home.

If you say your memory card is acting up, I think that should be your first priority to replace. Without a reliable memory card, everything else is pointless!

How about a graduated ND or a Cokin set . I think a remote comes in mighty handy. With the current pricing structures I buy multiple 512k cards that way I have built in redundancy :)

You never have enough of CF cards, even if just for backup.
The remote is very handy, I use it a lot.
Cokin filters are a lot of fun and real cheap. You need adaptor ring, filter holder and a couple of graduated ND filters.

New CF card & remote it is. Thanks, guys.

Shannon--I'm buying one too. If you go to buy.com, and sign up for a visa card, they'll give you $30 bucks off. I am buying a Sandisk Ultra 1GB for $89 - $30 - $5 coupon (good till tonight, let me know if you want the code).

If you look at card benchmarks on Rob G.'s site, the XT works very well with the Ultra II -- and I have one already (and I got my Rebel), so I can attest to that!

I'm getting the same thing Neil, though I'm not interested in the Amazon card. Still, $76 after rebate for a 1Gb Ultra II is tough to beat.
