Guess we should all get DPC-issued chemistry sets before voting begins, just to be sure. ;)

Exactly! I mean, if playing with mercury was dangerous why would my 7th grade teacher have given us all a bit to play with on the first day of class (way back when)? We rolled it around on the table. We touched it with our fingers and picked it up and let it roll around in the palm of our hands. We took bic pens and joined globules with other students and used the edge of pieces of paper to separate them again. I even managed to find some at home in my brother's chemistry kit.....Oh, yeah, now I remember, our teachers never liked students much. =o

What about pyrimidine nucleosides in aqueous solution?
After all, they have (N3)-deprotonated METAL ion-binding properties.
You guys have really got me worried now about what will properly meet this challenge.
I am already having trouble enough with the bird challenge. I noticed that several birds had insects or fish in their mouths. Why would anyone submit insects or fish for a bird's challenge? That obviously does not meet the challenge so you have to give them a vote of "1", right? That is to bad because some of them are pretty great pictures.

KaDi... Ah, Hah! This explains a lot of the images in your portfolio.

There, there, Steve. Don't be so worried. After all, you apparently paid attention in Chemistry class. (Too bad about biology, though.)

Please refrain from discussing particular images during a challenge :)

I'd like to see the water-drop photo done with mercury. That would be way ultra cool!

Dangerous? How about Yellow Phosphorus or Sodium, then of course the fierce burning Magnesium!
I believe Mercury and Lead have about the same toxicity level and the effects are cumulative..ever hear about "mad hatters"? Makers of felt hats used mercury in the production process. Most went mad in a few years, pre 20th century.

I have a question about this challenge...as I've not entered it yet..and not sure if I'm gonna...but is it ok to maybe have people in the picture with the metal...maybe doing something with the metal, so long as it doesn't steer away from what we are supposed to be focusing on...the METAL..??? (ramble, ramble)..
very curious about that, cuz like I said, I'm still not sure if I'm entering or not.. |

I don't see a problem with it crazycrystal1977. The rules, or the discription does not say "no humans please".
I say go for it.
Damn the torpedos and full speedo ahead.

Too bad my dad is 800 miles away, I think he used to have a pint bottle of it. A favorite joke of his was to leave it on the desk and ask someone to pick it up ... |
