I save as jpeg after all editing is done. I always keep the originals untouched.

Like marbo I keep the orginals untouched. In my case they are jpeg.
However, I save and keep the post-processed images in a lossless form rather than jpeg. In my case I keep them in .tiff format. (Yes, that requires a lot of disk space) I would never keep the post processed image in jpeg because it looses image detail each time it is updated and saved since jpeg is a compressed format.
I use the post processed image as the source file to create and save output images like for printing or DPC web jpeg files.
Don't know if that helps but that is what I do.

I know that I keep a record of ALL of my original photos on DVD - in their original saved format, which for me is JPEG.
Then I work with copies of the originals in PNG format (MS Digital Image Suite) and save them as either PNG or JPEG files (depending on how far along I am with PP editing and my "feel" for the image.
Granted, I think you can take a look at my scores and this probably works as an argument of what NOT to do (although I have been steadily increasing of late). Perhaps it is a lame argument, but because I'm not using an especially high-end camera, my production loss may be inconsequentail, but I'd like to believe that I can still produce great images with what I have available.
I do follow the rules of gaming... Save early & save often... This does require additional disk space, but a DVDs provide a more than adequate tool for that.
Just my 2 cents...
Jimmy
