Well, I broke the cardinal rule and shot a wedding for free for a friend.
As you can see, it was quite an extravagant affair and great for my portfolio should I wish to go down that route!
The wedding is likely to be featured in Cosmo Bride magazine, along with my photos, so that's likely to bring a bit of business my way!
The bride wanted informal reportage style shots (that's what any wedding photographer wants to hear!), so here are some shots of the couple along with candids of other guests.

were most of the photos shot in B&W or have u changed them that way? they are all very nice but i think some more color ones with the bride and groom might have shown some warmth of the day(IMO). i like the one of the couple dancing and the one where the two of them are sitting at a table but u can only see her laughing expression(almost like she got embarrased by maybe a comment of what the honeymoon will entail) very good photos here...good luck on the Cosmo feature.

Some nice work there, Bob. Are you shooting pretty much pro these days?

Thanks guys!
The embarassed bride shot was during her Dad's speech!
I did shoot in colour, but decided to make most of them b&w. I may make some of the same shots available in colour.
I'm doing depressingly little pro work, but I'm hoping my assignment for The Guardian Online (Glastonbury Festival) will open some doors for me. Also, this was my first wedding, so I now have some portfolio shots if I want to go down that route. I spent quite a bit of my life being an impatient musician wanting fame and success very quickly, so I have learnt my lessons and am cultivating an air of patience towards my photographic career. I am willing to put all the hard work in, and have plenty of other life skills to draw from, so I'm sure it will happen in time. |

I love to see wedding photography done in BW. Excellent work.
The wide angle shot down the aisle makes that look like the longest aisle ever known to man! Or woman... |

Superb images Bob. Just love the truly natural feel and the sense of joy in your pictures, they are outstanding. Having never really photographed a wedding (due mainly to alcohol), the sense that nobody really noticed you were there with your camera must be the goal that all good wedding photographers strive for? I know we noticed the chap who did ours many years ago and was not that impressed with them. They didn't get off to a good start as far as I can remember - turned up without a spare set of battery power, rushed off to find a shop and almost missed the event!!!
If I were to get married again, you could do shoot for me anytime (free of course!).

Thanks Nordic,
I have to say I worked bloody hard that day, and kept my alcohol consumption to a minimum. Never again for free!
God, if I turned up for an event like that without a spare battery and caused stress to a bride and groom, I'd never show my face again. |
