like this shot here, how do you do it? removing all colours but one. Is it only possible with expensive software?

its really easy in photoshop (if this is what you mean by expensive software)
if this was the only yellow in your orginal photo then you would go to hue/sat and desaturate all the color channels except yellow. it would take you all of about 10 seconds. if there was yellow somewhere else in the photo it would be a bit more complicated but should still take under a minute.

With layers duplicate the image so you have the same image on two layers. Desaturate the top layer to make it black and white and then erase parts of the top layer to reveal the layer underneath for the areas you want to have coloured. |

This method is not valid in basic editing. See the tutorial for the valid method in basic editing. |

The question was how this can be done. I did not reply having any competition rules in mind.
If you look at the rules (in red) on the left hand bar on this page then it would seem quite likely that a method similar to which I describe was used.

Anyhow I have PM'd to the creator of the image asking how it was done. I'll let you know when I get a reply. The method in the tutorial is new to me and I would be most surprised if you could get this very clean cut result with it on this particular image. |

Ok as promised here's the reply from the creator.
"Easy one - desaturate (ctrl+shift+U) then use the history brush to paint back in the
bananas." |

Nope, Nico's way is the only way to do it basic challenge legal. However, my shot wasn't done for basic challenge rules, so I told petrik how I do it. :)

I have tried desaturating it and then going back with the history brush on a few things. How in the world do you stay in the lines? |
