This waterfall is about 25 miles from my home. Barriers are put in place for a reason.

Sadly it's all too common. In Oregon it's Silver Falls State Pk. or Multnomah Falls, here in Arizona it's the Grand Canyon.
Last year at the south rim the ranger told us that at least 5 death each year from people climbing out on rocks or doing some other stupid stunt. Of course as he said this a family walked by on the narrow path with two children running wild. It really shocked me how careless people are there along the narrow, slippery, trails. No common sense. Very sad.

It sucks to have that happen to anyone, but all that can be said here is that those barriers were put in place for a very good reason.
Unfortunately, it does take a semi-regular reminder from some foolish person to reinforce the reason for having those barriers in place.
Perhaps the State Park Rangers could install a list of names, including dates, of the people that ignored the warning/safety of the barriers and fell to their death. It is possible that their tragic demise could save someone else from making the same mistake. |
