Come on, you thought of it too.
Edit: to clarify... this isn't MY photo, it's from "Legend" - y'know, the movie? :) The character's name is Darkness... I thought everybody'd seen that. Since we're on the subject of MY dark photographs though, here are two from Halloween that I personally feel would meet the challenge, but that I obviously can't submit. I've been itching for a reason to post 'em anyway.

Would give that a 4. Awesome photo, really nice to look at, neat composition, but it doesn't meet the challenge topic. I have this rigid and fascistic voting system, you see, and anything that doesn't meet the challenge gets a 4 or less. Darkness, means there can't be any bright colors in the picture. You have bright red there. I have to say though, meeting the prince of darkness must have been cool. What was he like? It's really, really too bad you didn't shoot it with more darkness in terms of lighting and color tones.
(Just something that I wouldn't be surprised seeing during the vote stage).

Yeesh... Why is the devil always shown as ugly. I mean he is supposed to be the king of lying... why would he show you who he really is.

If I were casting the devil, I'd go with Sean Connery...

For those of you who perhaps didn't get it... Darkness is actually the name of the demonic Tim Curry character (as Sher said) in Legend. Come on, where were you all in '85? :)
And technically the challenge description doesn't say anything about the shot being dark - it says to photograph what darkness means to you. Just a thought :) |

I disagree with this statement emphatically! The challenge is what is darkness to you - NOT take a dark picture. Darkness can manifest itself in many forms and lack of light is only one of them...there is emotional darkness, psychological darkness.

rgo was just making fun of the stereotypic narrowminded voter. A parody.

Looks like you scare the smaller kids away. I made our porch too scary our first year at our house back in 1995 and it brought a lot of kids to tears, I fealt horrible, so I've toned it down a lot. Oops!

We run a local haunted house every year, and we know we've done our job when we literally scare the pee out of someone (adults as well as kids). :-) Hey, they're there by their own will...and actually paid for it. We just gave them their money's worth!
At home with little kids trick-or-treating, though, I would also feel bad if I really scared them.

Only one cried... and he wasn't very small. I think I balanced out how creepy TJ looked by having a gigantic fuzzy pumpkin hat on. |

This challenge is going to be disappointing for a lot of people, I think, as there're going to be a lot of DNMC complaints.
For this challenge, DNMC voting should be rare considering the subjective nature of the challenge description (what darkness means to YOU). I hope voters vote with that in mind
Good luck for this challenge all!
Alex.

I have to agree with the warning... Watch out for the "uninformed" voters. The challenge clearly states, "what darkness means to you". You can't get more "open" than that. IMHO, it means that pretty much anything goes with regard to subject matter. Who am I to dictate what darkness means to someone else? I'm sure it will be interesting to see the variety of entries - I'm not sure I'll even enter this one, as I have all these wild images in my head, but neither the time, talent, or fortitude to make them come to fruition. ;-)
Just my 2 cents...
And BTW: I LOVED the Darkness character Tim Curry played in "Legend"! That image immediately lept to mind when the Darkness Challenge reared its ugly head!

I thought you were serious there for a minute and I was ready to put the gloves on...or at least write an angry letter to The New York Times. Something.
I'm afraid your humorous words will resurface soon but the next time it will be someone else and it will be reality. Ahhhhhhh!!!
