Where can I find inexpensive royalty free music to download and use? Found a few sites, but they are asking 49.00 per download of a song. Looking for the shutterstock version for music. Does anyone know if such a thing even exist? Also, does anyone know if all classical music is royalty free or does it depend on the composer, orchectra or what?

Is this for commercial or non-commercial use?
Either way, check out Creative Commons. Works distributed under Creative Commons licenses are offered for redistribution free of financial cost.
Be sure to read the license terms for the individual works you wish to use, as there is not just one "creative commons license," and therefore terms vary. For example. some require you to "share alike" under the same license any works you create that include them. Others probit derivative works, and still others prohibit commerical use.

Is there some reason you can't use walmart.com at .88 per download? You can burn each song on up to 5 CD's with that license. MSN Music costs .99 per download, but you can burn up to 7 CD's with their license. |

Are these photo CD's for personal use or created for paying customers?

They are not buying them. I'm putting all of the shots from sessions on a cd to give to the customer.

Did they pay a sitting fee for the session?

I just thought about checking out ebay and found a few royaly free cd's there. Just want to make sure I do not do anything illegal that could come back to bite me in the butt, if you know what I man. Was going to do it a courtesy thing, not actually part of the package. You know generate good karma so to speak.

In that case, this is a commericial use -- which is fine, but you need to be aware of it as it does narrow your options somewhat.
Creative Commons does list lots of musical works that are licensed for use in commerical works. To find some, go to //creativecommons.org/audio/ and, when searching, be sure to check the boxes labeled "I want to use the music commercially" and "I want to use this music in other works."
A search for "classical" with these boxes checked turns up 5 results. The two resuls with a icon have a sharealike requirement, and might not be suited to your needs (as you'd need to release the CD under the same license, which would in effect allow duplication of the photographs by the recipient).
The remaining 3 options only show the icon, which means all you have to do to use those works is to give attribution. It's important to note that each of these search results takes you to pages containing multiple works, so there are quite a few options here.
Searches for terms other than "classical" will of course yield different results.
Good luck!

Thank you so much. That is the kind of information that I was searching for about the use of royalty free music.

I think that's a great idea, and I think it's awesome that you're being so careful to respect to copyright of your fellow artists -- there's good karma in that, too!
When making your CD's for your customers, understand that some of your customers may not be as respectful of copyright as you are, or may simply not be aware of the requirements. To protect yourself it would probably be a good idea include a copyright notice on the label, which clearly states that unauthorized reproduction of the photographs contained on it is prohibited. You probably don't want to include larger than web-sized images on the CD (DPC-size should be plenty), and if you can find an action to do so, imprint a copyright notice in the corner of each one.
Good luck!
