What's going on DPC Crew. I just recently discovered this site and I'm anxious to start contributing to the challenges. I had a quick question to the experts on this site. Should I be shooting in RAW mode if I want to be able to get the best quality prints should I want to display some of my work. I have a few cafe's that would like for me to display some work (nothing big as all the cafe's here in San Francisco seem to have montly highlighted artists). Any suggestions or ideas about good FAQ's regarding this subject would be appreciated.

On any camera, RAW will preserve the most data and give you the most processing options.

Joe - Thanks for the quick reply. What sort of lens are you currently using with your D70? I've got the 25 - 80 mm that came with the camera and a Nikkor 10.5 Fisheye right now. Do you have any other lens that you consider a "must have"?

Shoot RAW.

50mm f/1.8 or f/1.4 is a must have lens for anyone.

yea raw is best when u have the time for it. Thats the 3 lenses I have ...the 50 mm 1.8, the 10.5 fisheye, and the kit lens. The only other lens I want to get eventually is the 80-200 2.8. but thats the most expensive. Otherwise you're pretty much set, depending on what you want to do. but yeah. Some people like those macro lenses too, which can be cool at times.

Remember to keep your original RAW or any file you decide to shoot at in case you win.

I have a 28-105mm Nikkor which was my all-around lens in good old film days, now I use it mostly for macro work (it has a macro switch which allows to shoot very close). I also bought recently a 70-300mm f4-5.6G lens - it's cheap (only $129) but decent quality, very compact and light, and gives me options which none of my other lenses would give (shallow DOF for portraits, candid shots, floral, wildlife). I would love to have 80-200mm f2.8VR but just can't convince myself (yet:)) to plunk $1500 for this baby.
