That is one Cute Kitty--
Are you gonna have her de-clawed?
Don't wanna start a debate, just wondering... |

What a cutie! I have four former kittens, now adult cats, who believe I am their waitress.

Probably. Our other cat is declawed and this new kitty has already made her mark on the leather recliner! We got her a few weeks ago and the girl said she thought she was 6 weeks....but I think she was younger than that. My youngest boy named her after a cartoon character...our cat's name is Velma (Scooby character).
What I 'really' want is a chihuahua. Like the one that Laurielblack has? I've been searching .... as I don't want a puppy, I would rather take in an older dog that needs a home. My two other dogs are a rescue dog and pound dog.

Have you tried to train your cats to use a scratching post?
A spray bottle can be a valuable deterant. After a while (a very short while) you don't even have to use it you just have to make like you're going to.
Just ideas. (How can you tell I'm not fond of declawing?)

I have a scratching post but she doesn't use it. Is there a way that I can make/train her to use it??? I would much prefer that!!! I was using a flyswatter at her when she gets on the coffee table (scaring her not beating her :) |

Probably find her dog "wanting" a new home after the latest incident:
That's so wrong - ROFL!
(j/k)
..then again maybe not. You may not want the doggy therapy bills he needs now.

She's little. You have to show her. Get one tall enough for her to stretch up on. Try spraying it with a little catnip. Invest in a couple of posts- stick them where she likes to scratch. I have three posts in my house. And I only have 470 sq feet of space. I have no scratching problems.
Then get double side sticky tape and stick it on the areas she claws. :)
Again, the biggest thing is to remember she's still a baby. Keep showing her where you want to scratch. Also check out cats.about.com. They have some awesome forums there and excellent articles covering pros and cons of declawing. As a tip, don't say you are planning on declawing your kitten. Trust me. :)
If you have any other questions, feel free to drop me a line.

Brad - Latest accident? What Happened? (I miss all the good threads!)Is little Peanut okay!! I just thought that puppy was too cute! My BF and oldest son think the same way as you Brad....it 'just ain't right to do that to an animal!' LOL
Clara - I will go check that website out! (and won't mention the declawing)I just bought some catnip today matter of fact! It looks like pot though! I poured some out and rubbed on my hands to rub on her new toys and it went all over the counter. I brushed it off quick because all I could think was if someone came in and saw that!!! I may be older but I still remember from way back when ;) As for the catnip I wasn't aware there was a 'spray', I'll check for that in the store too!

Incident - not accident.
Incident as in being emasculated.
ROFL - poor pooch! |

You can get catnip spray to spray on all the things she's allowed to scratch but I think you have to wait until 6 months for that. A water spray bottle may work better than a fly swatter though I haven't tried the latter.
Also, one thing to try is when she's scratching something you don't want her to take her to the scratching post and go through the motions with her. It could be she just doesn't know what to do with it.

Makes me wanna' have a kitten again.
Now that mine is 11 mos old (& still a hoot), she's off into new things like being "independant", mischievous and being finicky.
Oh - that's what cats are supposed to do?
mis·chie·vous - adj.

I've taught 4 cats now to use scratching posts, or similar things. The best thing to do is put a scratching post right next to the item you're not wanting scratched up, put catnip spray on the post. When they scratch the furniture, move them to the scratching post and do the scratching motions. As you see them using the post, move it slowly away from the furniture, towards where you want to keep the post, and start using the squirt bottle when they scratch the furniture. They'll pick it up fairly quickly.
I only encountered one issue, and that's with a cat that isn't afraid of the squirt bottle. She likes the water and the sound, so she just stares and says, "Yeah, so what, that's supposed to annoy me?"
I'm convinced she's not really a cat, but really an alien lifeform sent here to annoy me. |

You'll all be thrilled to know that Peanut is fine...no therapy required. He's still all boy, and actually attacked the feather boa one day and shredded part of it. I think he came through no worse for wear. ;o)
