one suggestion...
coney island june 25th
mermaid parade.

June 25th or 26th would be great for me.
After that I will have back surgery and cant meet up until the end of August.

I like the the Statue Of Liberty idea.

I like the Coney Island idea as well. I am usually at the parade every year.

Also... in July there is a kite exhibit and competition in Liberty State Park. The dates are July 23rd and 24th. Here is a link to the AKA Event page for this particular event:

New Jersey Stunt Kite Championships

And this link is the actual website setup for this event with much more info:

So far I am for the Statue of Liberty idea and also the Hiking in Harriman or Bear Mountain State Parks idea sounds cool also.

Also the end of June sounds good or the begining of July

Parade is an interesting idea however it seems to be more of an individual kind of thing. I think there will be a lot of people and we'll be just loosing DPC members all the time.

Anyone agree/disagree?

The NYS Aquarium would be a good challenging shoot. WE could help each other figure stuff out. Think that would be fun.
Then again, I say I will come & then end up working or not making it. I do have June off tho so I may actually make it this time.

Coney Island is a great idea. The aquarium and the beach provides a variety of photo opportunities, and we can go on the amusement park rides to take a break from shooting! Anytime in the summer is great for me; but there are always various events going on there throughout the summer so I will post here if I find out any info about them.

all sound like good ideas. I live near bear mountain so that would be easy for me and the mermaid parade at coney island sounds like a must do as well...

Also I know we been before but the Bronx Zoo has the new Butterfly exhibit that has opened now. It opened this weekend but it should be open whenever we decide to go.

I don't think I'll be interested in Mermaid parade. However I'm all for butterflies.

I don't know about going on rides with all of the photo equipment. Then again you can take pictures while you are on the Cyclone!

Hola! I spent all day/night Saturday up at Harriman state park. On Lake Kuawakakwkekwkakakwekakake. It rocked the house. Good birthday picnicky fun!

But I'd be down for a city gtg soon, sure. The Mermaid Parade is a definite, but I dunno about a big group? Kinda difficult to manage!

Whatever's decided, I'll try to show.

Cheerios,
Katy

It seems that Mermaid parade is what most people want to attend. Let's decide on meeting place and time. Does anyone know what time it starts/end?

I'd go, but I can't that day.

Unless you guys want to come to Prospect Park at 6:30 am to shoot a bike race (where I'll be). :)

6:30AM??? On Suturday??? no thanks....

Post few dates when you can make it to go to Bronx Zoo and we'll see what other people want and then decide. July 9th is just one of the suggestions.

I was really mad that I wasn't able to go to the brooklyn botanical gardens get together and can't wait to go to one. The mermaid parade sounds good because I am leaving the 28th and will not be back till the end of july, but Bear Mountain is also a great place and is not a far drive from where I am. I'll keep watching this thread to see if I can go to anything, but I'd be happy to go anywhere if I can.

july 9th sounds cool for the zoo, also the bear mountain idea sounds great I never been, how would we do that do they have tours or would it just be us walking around

Was just in NYC two weeks ago. Wish I could join you guys (but I'm out of Chicago area). Made my first trip to Coney Island and Ellis Island. Loved Coney - had the eerie feeling I was back in the 50s. Could have spent all day at Ellis Island; only got through one floor. Went to my favorite pizza place on Bleecker St. Ah man, I'm envious of all you NY locals!!!!

Bear montain does not have tours (not that I know of). It's like going hiking to forest. It has marked trails and lots of lakes and some mountains. There are many nice photo location if you want to shoot nature. You can meet some animals. However you'll need a car and will to walk for a few miles. I didn't think many people will go for it but I wanted to get some oppinions.

Everyone in favor of Bronx Zoo on July 9th say yes. Or suggest a different date.
