I'm thinking about investing (time & money) in an adult learning Photoshop class at the jr. college.

I know not a thing about the grown up Photoshop and I plan on doing the basics & the advanced coursework through the college. I just wanted to put this out there to find out if there is an alternate to this (perhaps an online course or tutorial to check out) before I fork out the $ for this.

Many free ones out there, many for $$. If you can learn from a book, video or CD they are out there also. TIME/MONEY and how you learn best. Also you might watch for little weekend courses that my come to your town or near by.

I would look into the basics at least. If you got time and money, go for it.

There are some good books out there to explore, and some good web sites as well.

Just remember that even though PS offers a plethera of tools to play with, there are alot of tools that you probly won't even touch once you get confident.

One more thought... when in school, ask your teacher if he/she knows how to make mattes. this alone is a very powerful tool that can help you manipulate pix.

check out my site under montages.

A year or two ago I knew nothing about Photoshop. Just participating on this site and doing quick searches on Google, or posting questions in this forum when I needed something specific, has enabled me to advance, and now I consider myself pretty good at using it! And I'm still learning (for free) all the time.

I actually learn really well on my own but my DH is pushing me to explore the classroom setting a little bit (perhaps he is trying to get me out one day a week for about a month and a half, eh?).

I am thinking that I may just save my $$ and perhaps spend it on glass.

(there's the way to save money!)

Justine, thanks for the links. SJ: ohmigod, I love your montage photos. THey made me smile, esp. Godzilla on Vacay.

photoshop for dummies taught me the basics.
And searching google for "photoshop hints and tips" gives a lot of pointers too.

There are online courses for PS, I took the 1st level last year and plan on taking the 2nd level in a couple of months.

iwa-hwg.eclasses

I've been a member with HWG and now IWA (they merged) for over 3 years and have taken 7 classes, and the classes are great. You don't have to rush to a 'school', yet you get instructor help as well as beneficial feedback from your fellow colleagues.

Not to mention, the instructor for PS, Astrid, is a great teacher!
