I did not know this. How? |
There are two boxes under the text box when you post, one says "show signature." Uncheck that. |

Ooh yes, of course I did know that - I thought he meant an option.
Question - if I uncheck the box in this thread and then post to a new thread, do I have to REcheck the box? Or will it start off checked, I uncheck it for 2nd post, it stays unchecked for 3rd post, but it's rechecked in a new post? Cuz THAT would be great.

Thanks for the good luck, I'm going to need it!!! Seriously, the learning process to master DSLR seem longer than what I thought but I already managed to get some good shot.
To show respect for this thread I turned my signature off to answer.

yes, you would have to recheck the box. the "show signature" checkbox only remembers your last selection (i.e. yes or no).

I don't have a signature ... |

Well...when I signed up, we were allowed to have whatever we wanted in our signatures. I want my money back and demote me to registered user then. bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch bitch....and you shall receive.
By the way, starting a thread about hemhoroids or whatever I was talking about is something to complain about. People's signatures are not. I have yet to see an annoying signature...from my perspective anyway.
Here's what I say -- if you don't like it, turn them off. As for me...well, whatever -- I just think it's funny that we come here for photography and some of us will find just about anything under the sun to bitch and moan about like little school children. Grow up or move on...life's not fair.

I could be wrong, but I think this line implies that he has ALREADY turned them off and is simply ranting about it cause... well cause he can.

*shrugs* I guess I'm just so fed up with people that complain about anything and everything that doesn't go there way. Personally, I don't like a lot of things, but I don't expect (or demand) my way or else I'm going to ... *gasp* turn my signatures off, then expect people to take me seriously.
This site used to be a great source of information and a fun place to hang out. I guess I've just been too caught up in things lately, and all I seem to find is how this person doesn't like this or that -- there doesn't seem to be a genuine sense of 'helping' going on here...or at least not the way it used to be. But hey...I guess there's always a time to move on. Not that this site would lose anything if I left -- I haven't contributed much, if anything at all, to any one person or group of people...I will not be missed. Carry on.

Strange...... time and time again I read threads from people who are so impressed with DPC, the forums, all the help, the friendship etc etc etc. Time and time I wholeheartedly agree with them.
So we have a gripe now and then - isn't that what the rant section is FOR?
I find it odd that once again YOU can't find anything good, deapee.
Should you really decide to "move on", allow me to wish you a safe and happy journey. |

Thanks. If you're trying to be sarcastic, I'm having a hard time telling. If you have something to say just come right on out and say it ;-) But anyway, thanks.

Hmmm, deapee, you are showing some pretty strong emotion to this. Why are you so upset that there are people around here that don't want to see signatures and have turned them off? While I'm sure that no one would want you to leave (myself included) I can't help but laugh at your response. Essentially you are threatening to leave a site that you enjoy because not everyone thinks it is perfect in every way.
I think it's worth noting at this point that several people agree about the signatures, and that most of us have turned them off thus alleviating the original stressor. This thread probably called attention to a site feature (ability to turn signatures off) that other members may not have been aware of, and so could be considered helpful to others. There is another site feature that you might not be aware of: you can turn off threads in the "Rant" forum in the My Home - Preferences section of your profile. It seems that people expressing negative opinions aggravates you, and it might help if you didn't have to see them. It's kind of similar to the "Hide Signatures" option.
And while I did get a kick out of your butt cyst story, I must admit it did cross my mind that it was the kind of thing I'd expect to find on WebMD rather than a photography website. If you can complain about a deeply personal anal problem, why can't others let off a little steam about something actually related to this site?

I think the problem is the middle ground...I suspect there are a number of users like me who wouldn't mind having signatures around if people could keep it to a line or two of text. However, it's unfortunate for the people who actually do this that there are people who take advantage of the signature area and use it like a second portfolio, forcing most people to turn off their signatures altogether. |

...or worse, a free banner ad for their own site or cause. Personally, I don't see the value of signatures and just keep them off. Forums should be for the discussion at hand, and if I want to know more about someone posting, I'll just visit their profile page. |

That's the way I see it. I used to PM people to make them at least smaller, but it didn't happen, so I just turned 'em off, and I miss the text thingies, which is too bad. Why not just disable graphics for signatures?
Robt.

Exactly what I said....leave to text links and I will click on it to check it out. Put up some photos and make it part of your portfolio and I have turned it off for that. I don't mind some text links like I have in my sig. But when it comes to someone that has photos there. And they post 15 times in a thread I am tired of seeing it and posted that fact. And to answer once again this is in the rant forum and I felt like ranting. |

From one griper to another - you often come across as disgruntled, unhappy, sarcastic, and generally antagonistic. But hey, so'm I, so...

so i guess my few quotes and hand signature are too much eh?
P.S. When I do actually post these days I turn mine off. No one cares how talented I am, only how close to their ideals I can come.
edit: the sad thing is, things like this take all the fun out of everything. There is always someone to complain about something.
God I love the rant forums.. you vile evil people (sarcasm incase it buzzed the top of your head)

To answer your question, I'm not threatening to leave anything...that is no big deal whether or not I leave. If I do 'move on' it's not because of this, in particular. Like I said, I'm just tired of listening to people complain about this feature or that feature or how they like this but not like that...this is illegal, this was too far edited...DQ this shot from a year ago because of this or that...Your comments are unfair...My shot was wrongfully DQ'd because I don't know how to submit an original or how it was so unfair because this or that...let's change the name of the site from dpchallenge to dpeditingchallenge...wah wah wah wah wah wah wah.
While I'm being honest, I've already moved on. The fact is I just so happen to spend a lot of time on the internet, so when it's convenient for me, I drop by to see what's going on here. I don't know, it's just not like it used to be such a short time ago when I first joined...or, like I said, I'm just too into it at the moment, I don't know -- but I'm definately fed up with hearing people complain. Like I said to this problem...if you don't like signatures, turn them off...as so many others have done.

I agree with you. It's almost as if people enjoy complaining more than they enjoy taking and sharing photographs. I think if more people put in the time with their camera that they put in complaining about why people don't like their stuff than they might actually please themselves. But against an alternative like blaming everyone else for their misfortunes, it seems smurf'd in comparisson
Perhaps if we complain long enough, people will like our photos.

I have to turn off the 95% of signatures I'd like to see, because 5% of the people abuse the feature.
That's rather like saying I should not drive the freeway because a few other people insist on driving 95 in a 65 zone. |
