When everyone decides to stop using "damn" photos for their signatures and go back to using word links then I will turn them back on. I am on cable and it doesn't bother me for the download time but to have to scroll so far to get through all the ridiculous photo signatures. That should be banned from this site.
Just my rant now back to your regularly scheduled program.

So your opinion is that everyone should change their signatures to conform to your standards...so that you can turn them back on, so you're happy? If only the world worked that way. Personally, I enjoy seeing the creative side of people.

Ah Rex, I'm with you. I turned mine off a long time ago because the people who post long poems and 17 pictures in their signatures really take up so much room on the forum pages. And if they post to the same thread more than once it just makes it worse!
When I was really new I used to go check out the websites posted in people's signatures all the time - especially if they made a particularly insightful comment or critique of someone else's shot. Have to admit, I miss that a bit. On the whole though, I scroll a whole lot less now that signatures have been turned off.
You'll probably laugh, rex, but when you helped me with the smugmug discount code I had no idea what you were talking about (at first) because I couldn't see your signature! :) Thankfully you posted the code in a separate post to the thread, but by then I'd figured it out.
Like deapee, I enjoyed seeing the creative side of people but it's not worth the extra scroll time. |

I turned if off long ago. I had problems figuring out if the picture is being discussed in the forum or its a signature :D |

If you have something to share then put it in your sig. but leave it at text. I will be glad to click it and see what is there. But with all the photos here lately I have now turned it off.

I am grateful that we have the option to turn them off.
No need to put up with them. I turned them off long ago. |

Same here.... If I really want to see something a person did... I can always visit their profile. I turned mine off when I was still on dial up as I found the exercise just too frustrating. In addition, I also got good and tired of having the same lame comments staring me in the face anytime I read a post made by somebody.
The nice thing about the existing mechanism, is that we are all free to exercise the option we want.

Honestly, I don't mind scrolling -- if I did, I wouldn't spend so much time on the internet. If someone wants it in their signature, I'm all for it. I guess that's why they made the option so that you can 'turn off' others' signatures.
If you don't like it, turn them off -- no need to start a thread about it begging people to conform to your likings. And by the way, I'm not trying to come off the wrong way here...I like you James, I just feel you're out in left field here by complaining.

If you use Firefox then the Adblock extension will allow you to block the annoying images while leaving the text signatures intact. That way you are only "punishing" the people who insist on using images and still get to see all the good stuff : ) |

Sorry, deapee, I have to laugh at this. Didn't you once start a thread about your hemorrhoids or butt cysts or something? Give rex a break, will you? |

I'm with you. Site council is actually discussing forum signatures currently. We currently limit photo size in forums for the same reasons, and I feel that some users are not being curtious to others by keeping signatures simple.

As I mentioned in another thread, it's a signature, not a brochure. |

Just for me to know. Is my signature too long?

Nick, I just turned them on so I could see yours......
Sorry to say this, but yours is the type of thing (or one of them) that caused me to turn them off in the first place ..... it would drive me nuts having to look at that over and over again. |

I don;t think it's too long Nick, but it IS a bit distracting, and bright.... it's a cool sig though, and on a different forum, with different colors it may be great, but here, I'd have to say IMO it doesn't work. |

Hi Nick - I'm sorry - while it's a good design, it is kind of more like a brochure than a signature.
Congratulations on your Rebel - see you've upgraded from the V3. Good luck with it! |

As a poster in the forum, you have the option to post your signature only the first time you post in a thread -- you can then uncheck the box and not post it for subsequent postings.
I see no need for an image in the signature area at all, but if it's going to be there, I think it is the repeated viewings in the same thread -- especially where the sig is longer than the comment -- which provides maximum irritative value. |

How about adding a config item to Hide Signatures, for Hide Signature Graphics?
