I am completely new to PS and especially "actions". I tried out the Gothic Glow one and I evidently scripted in some new steps. How do you return the action to its "default" each time? Thanks, and hope my question isn't the ultimate idiocy! Oh - and also - I assume that PS Actions only work with PS (some plug-ins can be used with other programs); is this correct?

I did the same thing and I simply deleted the Action and then unzipped the file again into the folder. Then re-loaded into PS.

There may be an easier process but this worked for me.

Thanks! I was afraid of that idea . . . lol.

Kylie did you try going back through 'history' in PS?
05/15/2005 09:31:03 PM · #5
Speaking of PS actions, I too downloaded the Gothic Glow action, put it into the actions folder in PS but I can't find it to use it???? What am I doing wrong?

Like I even know what "History" does! LOL I figured there was some simple way to get back to "default". There ususally is with other PC apps. I just looked in "Help" and there looks like there is a way to delete "commands", but I don't know which I want and which I don't.

You will find the answer in this thread. This is how I did it.

Who WAS the person that started us on this Gothic Glow craze?

He/she is responsible for this and should be forced at gunpoint to write a thorough tutorial on how to use the darn thing, too.

If you're with me, grab your weapons and we'll go on a witch-hunt!

The evil culprit is here, but he only started it and wanted to know himself how to use it! LOL

Oh. Hmpfh. Back to the drawing board and the helpfile then, huh?

Actually, I was lucky. Mine installed and ran smoothly, but that was just sheer luck, not skill.
As far as resetting defaults, I would first try removing the action from the list and re-loading it fresh (and crossing fingers all along that I don't kill it totally LOL)

Hey, Kylie, that worked!
I just stuffed mine up, too, it wouldn't run anymore.
But re-loading it fixed it - phew!

Now Kylie, You will never overcome your addiction until you can take that first step and admit you have a problem rather then blaming others ;o)

I'm probably as much to blame as nayone for perpetuating this craze int he original thread. But the one you want to have write the tutorial is Laurielblack, who introduced ME to Gothic Glow. She's quite the master of it.

Incidentally, a lot of the time I'm running my own, step-by-step home brew version of the same thing now, because the actual Gothic Glow is a little to extreme for my tastes sometimes... Don't ask me to explainw hat i do, 'cuz I'm not quite sure myself, but I fudge around with layers and gaussian blur and USM and levels and saturation and layer modes and so forth and it works, sometimes...

I toned it down by adding the original as a (bottom) layer, then fading the glow layer to taste

LOL...thanks, but I was actually introduced to it by sher9204 , who is the REAL instigator 'round these parts. She's always stirring up trouble, you know. ;o)

Yup, but that's not legal in DPC currently. When GG does its thing, it makes a whole new image. You have to copy that image, paste it over the original image, and do your fade. As the rules are written, even though this is effectively just an "effects layer", it's illegal under the advanced ruleset. Or at least, I worry about that. This is why I started futzing with my home-brew version, I can do it all on layers over the original image file.

As much as I adore this filter, I do actually not want to see it "legal" for challenges. Just my opinion, obviously.

aren't multiple layers legal in the advanced editing rules?

As long as it is a copy of the same image not the image altered. At least that's what I think.

Beetle, I would like to see the original of the "Lake-Fenwick _ gothic-glow" to see if I can reproduce the effect without using the action of GG.
