Shot this for a golf calendar for a superintendents association. I would appreciate your thoughts. Thanks!!!

A wonderful shot but it is less "golfy" than it should be for a golf calender. IMO anyway.

Seeing as this is a large landscape with no real subject, the flowers in the forground really give it depth. I Like it!! |

That's a nice shot, Wayne. I like the depth you've achieve with a low-aperture shot that has both beautiful foreground and background subjects.
Did you confirm the dimensions of the shot they want, since most calendars feature square or almost square images? You might want to make sure since that will affect your composition. Also, your horizon line runs throuh the center of the picture, which makes its composition less dramatic than if it ran above or below center. In this case, I think the golf course is more important than the sky, so I would recommend putting your horizon about a third of the way from the top. Also, I almost never recommend that people increase saturation in their photos, but the colors --especially in the orange flowers-- seem a little dim in this shot. If you have Photoshop, you can adjust curves or saturation to help with this.
But like I said, this is an excellent photo with a very nice perspective. Good luck with the calendar, Wayne!
Edit for speeling. :-)

I think the colors were affected by the save to jpeg. In the original, the colors are much nicer.
Luckily, I am the graphic designer who will be designing the calendar. So I get to pick the size and shape of the images.
Thanks for the input.

I managed a private club for several yrs in Bradenton, Fl. From my experience, give the greens supers an open bar before the meeting, and it's all good!!!

Agree with PhilipDyer - colors could be pumped up a bit and the horizon line should be composed something other than dead center. Good luck with the calender. |

If your goal is to highlight, for superintendents, some of the "other" aspects of a golf course, such as ornamental plantings, xerographic landscaping, wetlands preserved, that sort of stuff (as opposed to hole routings and bunker/greens sculpturing) then it's a very nice shot. If the goal is to have 18 interesting "golf hole" shots, then IMO there's WAY too much of the foreground foliage. Id like to see more color saturation in the leaves, also, and a less static placement of the horizon, as others have pointed out.
