Hi gang! I just returned from a whirlwind tour of Italy. I barely had any internet access for the past 10 days (though I did manage to enter the Free Study). What'd I miss?

Naturally, the 2Gb Lexar card that I've used for months without a problem was dead on arrival, so I was "limited" to about 350 shots a day using smaller cards and downloading to a laptop. I haven't gone through everything yet, but HERE are some of my initial favorites.

I was so hoping for an Ancient Ruins challenge last week, but it didn't happen. ;-)

Welcome Back!

I see the jet lag did you in - forgot how to make a link huh?

Geez - let you out of our sight for just a little bit and now we have to retrain you!
(I'll retrain you to do ALL your editing crooked so you will be out of the competition around these parts)

LOL

Hey Shannon, good to have you back.

I don't know what you missed, except perhaps another one of my impressionistic shots bombing in the freestudy.

Oh, and see the thread about the special invitational.

Hey, did you get your 350/XT yet? Mine hasnt shipped. The promise date of the 25th was just extended to the 5th. That's Dell for ya.

Regards--Neil

Welcome back. Italy, do they make enough cards to hold all the pictures you can take there? One of the most photogenic places I have been.

Yep, jet lag is taking its toll... the link should work now (and I'm going to sleep).

Neil, these were all taken with the 350XT and either the kit lens or the Tamron 28-75mm. I pounced on the Dell promotion the instant I saw it, so mine was probably among the first to ship. The lower noise was a big help on this trip- the low-light interior shots were taken handheld at ISO 800.

Welcome back. What an awesome collection of shots. Everything is just so beautiful there. Have to go one of these days.

Just what we need, Shannon back... For a while there, those ribbons were up for grabs, though I didn't manage to grab any of 'em...

Seriously, welcome back!

Welcome back Shannon! Your photos made me long to go back. You have one photo that looked startlingly familiar.... :D

That's no accident, Andi... your shot has been among my favorites for a while, and I wanted to try it myself. My nephew suggested a photo of the staircase the night before and I showed him yours as a great example. Unfortunately I was there on a national holiday, the day after the new pope's first Mass, and on a Monday (when most other museums are closed), so the place was PACKED! An empty staircase would have required devine intervention.

Beautiful stuff Shannon. I can't wait to see more.

Did you get to see the pope? :-)

Great shots, Shannon! Love all that architecture and your use of light. Cannot wait to see more as well.

I'm very flattered! That's the first time I know of that anyone has ever tried to emulate one of my shots- which I of course, emulated from elsewhere too ;)

Now if I could only get the rest of my portfolio to look more like yours.... hee hee!

Hey you didn't by any chance run into my wife did you? She's been in Rome now for about 4 weeks and I'm having my doubts she's ever coming back lol

Good to have you back, and thanks for sharing some (what... 2%) of your photos? *s*
I have been to most of those places and really appreciate the trip down memory lane.
Glad you had a good time and lots of photos to keep your memories alive.

Hurrah, you are back. Welcome. I did not know where you were. So great, you had a grand time!

Hi.
I'm glad to hear you had a good time. Those pics are good. It's really a shame we didn't get to meet, perhaps next time ;)

I thought your Free Study shot was pretty cool. Not bad at all for an away-from-home entry. Nothing can keep a good man down.

Oh, and ... welcome back. Glad you made it home safely.

A lot of carping in the forums but one important thing -- D&L added a Lens database. Works kinda like where you list your cameras. Pretty cool. Check it out. Start by going to My Preferences and inputing your lens collection, then you can indicate which was used whenever you upload a photo.

Shannon, I have been to Italy quite a few times, but that was so many years ago. I would loooooooove a trip down memory lane.

If you have any more pics to look at, please let me "at 'em"!
