I'm sorry, Lauriel. I had to laugh when I read that as well.

Spell check cannot catch everything... marquis is a correct spelling, you know. |

Yes, it is a word and I do actually agree with the thrust of your post. It just made me giggle (not derisively). That's all. |

Laurie, I'm with you all the way.
I am not perfect at spelling, but I won't use the fact that English isn't my mother tongue as an excuse ( and I was 20 years old before I left my birth country - Germany).
Without getting paranoid enough to check every word I ever write, I do strive to speak (and write) acceptable English, and passionately hate the way this poor language is changing for the worse (MUCH worse) at such a frightening rate.
There is no need to panic spell check every single forum post, but surely a title (often only ONE word) would be nice to have right.
Quick funny story: our local Target store renovated/changed their parking lot. The pedestrian crossing was repainted with some pretty stripes and a nice, BIG word (one from each direction): YEILD ..... the fixup job never completely managed to cover it up LOL |

I read the rant with a big grin because my American cousins from over the pond keep writing about correct "English"! I'm sorry but you write and spell American not English. By the way lauriel - kids are baby goats!!

As English is my second language, I use the dictionary quite a lot. and still, I am the queen of typoes or spell errors. But I can give you two reasons for that
One: When I re-read what I wrote, I tend to see what I wanted to write. Not what is actually written. What can I say? this is how the mind works in most cases.
Second: I type so fast I just don't think my keyboard can kep up with me. Some might find this a useful thing, I find it a very bad thing but comlpetely un-controllable. A habit.
And I have had my share of eating crap for that... just check my "horrible" typo here |
