Hi There,
Just threw together a very quick and very rough web page of some candid shots that i have taken. I'm planning on putting these and/or others into a more professional looking page. What do you guys think?
Cheers

I just saw a few, but they seem a little too snapshott-ish for my taste.

That was the look that i was going for, a kind of 'slice of life'.
Maybe i'm too far off the mark?
Oh well back to the drawing board
thanks

I really like the candid style that you have going here! :-) I find it so hard to take pictures of people, especially in the "slice of life" kind of way that you capture so well! :-) There were a couple where the contrast/brightness could perhaps be adjusted (maybe two?), but they look really good!
I especially like the one of the sidewalk chalk artist. Good eye for the interesting moments in life. |

It was just an idea that i had a few days ago. I haven't done any work on the pics apart from B/W treatment and crop. I threw this together from Camera to WWW in about 40 minutes, including upload.

Kev, I love the look and the feel of your photos, very "real life".
I really enjoyed looking at them. The variety of close up vs further back is nice, too.
My only complaint is that they are ALL in black and white.
I know some people have a love affair with b/w, but in my opinion it gets boring when that is all you see. I'd do some in b/w, but the majority in color. |

Oh oh oh!! There's some cool trick with photoshop too where you can make most of the picture black and white, but leave a lady's purse red or something....not entirely sure how to do it...something about desaturating I think. But there should be a fairly recent forum thread about it if you're interested. It's a pretty cool effect and might work on some of your photos if you think you like it. If I can find the link, I'll post it here. |

And that is doing it the HARD way, the legal under basic editing way!
When you are not restricted by a challenge, it is way way easier than that! |

Hi all,
I'd just like to thank everyone for their comments, good or bad.
Also giving this a little bump for all the people who didn't see it last night.
Any more thoughts?

What a fascinating slice of life Kev!! They're great!! Did you do this project over a few weeks or were all the shots taken on the one day.
I'd love to try something like this in town, not sure if I'm brave enough yet. Taking photos at a rugby match is one thing, in the middle of town is something completely different! What sort of reaction did people have to you taking their photos?

Wow! so many people! You are brave.
The one that I care about most is the crying boy. Being a father, I just want to rush in there and help the poor guy, and the tired looking old guy just sits there!
The one I like least is the lady with the confronting frown coming towards you. Makes me feel uncomfortable.
I'd love to see the sax and guitar player in colour.
I think that for such a big collection on one page, having all of them in BW makes it look more, reporterly.

Hi there,
Took most of these over two days but a few are much older.
