Here are some samples from 2 new lenses I picked up:

Tamron 28-75 XR Di f/2.8
All samples at 2.8, unprocessed except for resize:

Tamron 18-200 XR Di II
All samples are f/8:

The 28-75 is so sharp at 2.8, it's scary.
The 18-200 is a little soft wide open, but pretty decent stopped down to f/8. Very usefull range.

Both have good colours and contrast. Focus us not as fast and quiet as my USM lenses, but decent.

Definitely 2 keepers.

Just ordered a Tamron 28-75 f/2.8, and I'm glad to hear you've had success with it! I hope I get a good copy. It should arrive sometime this coming week.

28-75 is the best zoom I have ever used. I don't care for the AF too much, it seems pretty lame, but using MF I can get shots like this:

Great lens, no matter how your use it.

I had a copy of this lens last year that was unfortunately very soft. Needless to say, I did not keep it. I was hesitant to get another one, but I had heard that Tamron really inmproved their QC. If my copy is an example of what they put out now, then they really have got it together.

Good luck with your copy.

Tamron seems to be making excellent lens with their XR Di/ii series. Especially lens that cover a realtively short zoom range. I keep hearing almost universal praise about the 17-35 and the 28-75 from magazines and from users. According to Popular Photography, the 17-35 compares almost same on their SQF test to the Canon 17-40L.
I haven't heard much or seen any tests on the 18-200 yet, but according to reviews (especially by Bob Atkins, where he tests the 28-300) these long zoom do not perform as well as two consumer grade lenses covering the same range. But that should be a no brainer.
The Tamron 200-500 XR Di doesn't seem to get great reviews.
I don't have any Tamrons, but in retrospect, it might have been better to get a Tamron 17-35 and 28-75 rather than the kit and the Canon 28-135. Except, I like more range than 75mm's. Oh well, you can't have everything. Now if Tamron only made a 18-125 XR Di f2.8....

I'd buy one of those sight unseen.

I know, but it's not a XR Di version.

Is this lens still available? Is it any good? That's a pretty usefull range for a 2.8.

I just did a search to see if anyone had this lens - mine just came today! :D I haven't taken any worth showing pictures, but wowowwowowowowow

Photozone rates it a 3.54 and rates the 18-55mm kit crap as a 1.17. lol I guess my bag just got a LOT stronger (I have rented a 24-70L 2.8 in the past but this is MINE MINE!!)

It might be a good idea to use the full nomenclature when it comes Tamron Lenses. The SP is like putting the L on the end of canon glass. I have bought into the the Tamron (Non SP) AF only glass and well I no longer use that lens due to softness. There is a price/quality difference with the non-SP stuff. My 17-35mm SP AF XR Di on the other hand is tack sharp.

I've had that lens for several years and absolutely love it. It was wonderful with my EOS 1n and is a delight with the digital. (It IS a heavy beast, however, and takes HUGE, EXPENSIVE filters!)

I have been eyeing the new Tamron SP AF 11-18MM F/4.5-5.6 Di II LD Aspherical (IF). You can see it here:

Tamron SP AF 11-88mm

I would be more than interested in opinions if anyone has one or gets one in the next month.

I currently use the Tamron AF28-300 F/3.5-6.3 XR Di and SP AF 200-500mm F5-6.3 Di and have been happy with them for what I bought them for. They are a bit soft but affordable.

Bob Atkins has a review of it on his website.
