I recently bought a Canon 550EX and 420EX and whilst for the most part I'm loving it, there's one bit that's bugging me. If I have the 550 set to master, and the 420 as wireless slave, I can't seem to stop the 550 firing.

I tried changing the thing that said "on" to "off" on the 550 like the manual says, but they still both fire, can anyone help? What's going on?

Thanks

It can be done cause i have done it and i did lift the directions from the 550ex manual but i don't have it in front of me... it may appear that the 550 is firing when it really isn't.. it will fire a preflash but no actual flash...

I thought it might have been a preflash - having read about stuff like that - but I did a test shot in the mirror, and both flashes are definitely illuminated in the picture.

I'll find the answer tonight when i get home if someone doesn't find it before me. I did find it in the manual and tried it out... worked fine...

That's great, thanks. I'm going to have another session with the manual after dinner.

The answer is on page 57 of the user's manual.
