I'm not sure if DPC does a yearly calendar, for sale on the site, consisting of leading photos from the previous year? If not, this in my opinion would be a good way of yet again highlighting the best photos of the year, honoring the photographers active here, and perhaps raising a bit of cash for the site.
I realize since it involves cash, the equation would have to be worked out, as to what "share" the photographers included would be entitled to, and what copyright issues might have to be addressed.
But if those issues get resolved, I reckon people would be interested in such a product. The process could be simple enough. Perhaps around September of October, ribbon photos get placed in a round of voting by users here, and the top thirteen (one for cover) get selected for the calendar.
Just an idea that might be fun, interesting and constructive. Apologies if this is already something that's being done. I'm a newbie.

I like this idea as well, but would like to toss out another calendar idea. Can we get a online calendar that includes all the DPC get togethers? It might be a good way to track ones you're interested in going to. It could also include photography workshops that DPC'ers are attending. For instance, Gordon and I are going to a Rocky Mountain School of Photography workshop in Big Bend National Park, Texas, the first week in November. If we put it on the DPC calendar, it might spark interest for others to join as well.

Just a thought,

I think an 'event calendar' feature added to the site would be nice also. People could enter their own information and it would be real-time.

We hear this idea once in a while. If someone wants to make calendars there are steps to follow to make it happin. It will cost you 6-10 thousand dollars. I would be glad to buy one for no more than $15(the standard calendar price).

That would give - among other things - a good overview on all the GTGs etc.

That may be true for mass market, pre printed calendars, but with on-demand printing and on line fulfillment, you do not have the same costs . I think you are seriously overestimating the cost to produce by orders of magnititude.

I was actually thinking of DPC when I saw someone's calendar recently... different cultures and different countries highlight different days in their calendars.

I can imagine the DPC calendar having all sundays and all tuesdays marked with RED... guess why. It would be nice to have additional sparsely distributed days also marked in an alternative color, but we don't know what these dates are in advance.

We've researched it in the past ... mass-produced (can be sold for $6-10) do cost a few thousand to get printed up, and you have to order a minimum of 500 (a run of 2000 is more realistic, pricewise).

One-off, on-demand calendars cost more like $20-30/each -- it would cost nearly that just to order 12 prints (8x10) from DPC Prints, even at the base price.
