Check out the following photo:

taken yesterday... not a remarkable shot by any means, but taken at 180mm (35mm equivalent) at 1/2 second. HANDHELD!
That really is astonishing.
Remember this works on ANY lens!
I love my camera :-D

You can ... it's called a tripod and the downside is you have to lug it around everywhere :-/

I managed to get a decent shot recently using my 28-135 IS at half a second handheld at an effective 45mm. Yours is much more impresssive being at an equivalent 180mm and considering that it's on board the camera and, as you say, applies to any lens you use.

Well, I have had my Minolta A1 for a while now and my wife has teh Z3, and we both think that the AS system is amazing!

Plus while other cameras have the IS lens... we dont have to pay a ton of money for them!

Beautiful shot Bobster

Great shot Bob
I must admit I'm sold on the AS system on my A2, this shot was a 1 second exposure hand held

My target this year is to some how find the funds for a 7D and lenses

Anti Shake technology is a wonderful thing. I wish more camera bodies would feature them. I have a feeling Canon won't do that since they make few hundred dollars by installing it into their lens instead. Plus it is a feature that you can turn off or on, depending on your needs. Nice feature to have but never interferes if you don't need it.
I rarely use the IS feature on my lens, but it's a nice option.

Thanks everyone, I wish I'd had a better composition though... I was so chuffed by how effective the AS was after I took the shot, I couldn't get my hands that still again. Nonetheless, I'll try to keep a tripod on me when I'm near water!
I agree that a tripod is just as impressive for landscape photographers, but I'm specialising in music gigs and festivals where I can't carry a tripod around all day, or am actually prohibited from using one, so I am really pleased I went the Minolta route.

Edit: ISO3200 is very useable, combined with AS on a 50mm F1.7 lens, this is a killer combination for really low light.

Most places do not allow for tripods either, such as museums and indoor venues. If flash is not desired or not allowed, anti shake technology can be very handy to have for stationary shots in low light.
