So I'm thinking of creating a web page that shows my work -- and possibly attract sales or whatever...

What would be a good name?

davidpaull.com is taken -- what about davidpaull.net or davidpaull.biz -- would that look 'professional'

Obviously something like deapeephoto.com isn't too 'professional', huh?

Or anyone have some other suggestions?

I still think .com look most professional right now though people are slowly becoming more aware of the other domain suffixes.

How about

DavidPaullPhotography.com

or

DPP.com

or

DP.com

or

DPPhotography.com

You get my drift...

David Paul Photographer [of note] :)

Whilst I know there's a lot to be said for short and snappy, sometimes longer works well too.

In this case, it's long but very easy to remember so shouldn't be a negative.

Wait for more input though - I'm just one (rather small) brain.

my fear of long names is that many people cannot spell, and typos abound, as do alternate spellings in attempts to be different, memorable, etc.

I am having the same problem - almost every variation on my name is taken (and taken by photographers in many cases).

If you do a david_paull.com that works, but if davidpaull.com is a photographer then at some point people will be confused (for better or worse).

i tend to avoid the .us, .biz, .net. If they had a .art, then maybe we'd have something!

IMO, davidpaulphotography.com would be good. Your name is easy to spell & remember & the benefit of having photography in the domain names is that your site will be nearer the top when that word is googled, as parts of domain names get priority over meta tags.

1) Are you definitely a David? DavePaull.com is available.
2) PaullPhotography.com is available and pretty cool.
3) PaullPhotos.com is available and shorter.
4) Create a new name - my business is "Picture Infinity Studios" and our domain is //www.pictureinfinity.com

I think the above is a good reason to not go with the longer name. Most people are going to remember/think paul and not paull and that's going to cause you problems. If you're thinking of establishing a company in the near future then make sure the website name and company name are the same if not very similar.

You misspelled it. It's not Paul, it's Paull. Still easy? ;)

OMG, LOL, good catch moodville! NO, not so easy now. You should definitely drop the last 'L' in your name. :-D

oh well I think I registered it -- got a receipt, but apparently the domain is still available. I guess I'll wait 24 hours to see what happens...lol I probably spelled my name wrong or something.

What's the best place for web hosting? //www.123cheapdomains.com seems pretty good from what I remember

How about paulltography.com?

In any case, I'd recommend that whichever one you decide on, if it has 'paull' in it, pick up a similar one with just one 'l'. Its a different spelling than most might remember and I would guess that it'd be seriously missed due to typos. Get the additional domain and have it redirect to your real site.

It usually takes a day or two for the registry to update and the ownership to kick in.

Funny, I was just going through this same thing a week or so ago... Jenniferpricephotography.com was already taken and seemed a bit long. I tried coming up with something witty and catchy to no avail and think I've finally decided on JenPricePhotography.com and if they get the other one oh well then. :-) Right now, it's just part of my family website and still very much under development here. Had to throw something up quick to coincide with a show and waited until the last minute to do everything. Printed temporary business cards until I can make up my mind on what to do about the whole website name thing..... Who knew picking out a little name could be such a big pain in the arse?

So, I guess I'm the last to leave advice on what you should do and it's a good thing you've already made a decision cause I'd be no help at all. :-D Now all you have to do is come up with a website design... ARRRGGHHHH!
