So far all the suggestions I have are:
Photo Access*
Photography 4 All*
Image Fun
Image Access*
Photography Exposures
Developing Photographers*
Opening the Aperture
First Photo
The Big Picture*
The ones with *s by them I am leaning toward. Thanks for all the comments and suggestions.

Hey Rex, I'm still around for this. I'm not sure how easy it will be to get up to your area that often (2 toddlers and all) :-) But I'd still like to help if I can even if it is in limited instances. I think we still have an old Mavica lying around the house here somewhere that I could probably send your way. Keep me posted.
And maybe if it takes off well, you could expand to other areas of the city, say like Douglasville. ;-) This is a great idea you've got going, btw. And I admire your Gung-ho attitude towards it.

You and SDW came to mind when GeneralE suggested people local to be on the board. Maybe we can do a chat about the matter in yahoo or somewhere about what all I need to do...The more minds the better huh. Just pm me and let me know.

Rex - I PM'd you earlier about a website. I'd be willing to donate the hosting, domain name and setting it up. (I run a web development company).
Domain names available (from your preferred list):
photoaccess.org
seethebigpicture.org
developingphotographers.org
photography4all.org
photographyforall.org
**I like "Developing Photographers"

Such a marvelous idea. My friend's teenager has Downs Syndrome and he was using a camera in art class and loved it.
It would like to be able to donate. I've been wanting to do something for others for a while now and have been looking for something that means a lot to me. This might be it!
I don't have any old cameras because I keep selling them when I get a new one, but I want to create photo notecards and sell my photos of local scenes (if I can find a source). I would love to donate a portion of the sales to this very worthy cause. Please keep us all posted! |

Ken (kpriest)
You are awesome for voluteering your services for this.
Everybody give Ken a big hand for stepping up to the plate and being so generous.
I was leaning more toward "Developing Photographers" and that is the name I think I will go with. I just need to find out first that it is not taken in our county. Thanks to Joey (saiphfire)for offering and coming up with that name.
I will find out tomorrow if it is available. She is also to tell me if the Business License is free.
Thanks to all for posting in here and showing interest. I will let you all know when everything is setup and ready to get off the ground. Which should be tomorrow.

Also I wanted to toy with the idea when I go speak to these kids I want to take some prints with me that show the range of photography.
Examples:

Prints not available:

Of course I will buy the ones that are available and will ask the photographers permission to use it in a discussion with these kids. I hope they don't mind me using them here. I am trying to be diverse as possible and if you know of any other photos then by all means suggest away.

Hi James! I'm still interested in helping in whatever way I can. Right now, time isn't one of the assets I can contribute. I'll have some more time starting in mid to late June.
Also, my daughter just got a new digital camera--I will discuss the possibility of donating her old one to the project with her. It's only 1.3 MPixel, but it's a great camera and fully functional (Oly 450Z).
I'm pretty sure you'll be able to pick up a few cameras that way from this group!

Cameras are always welcome no matter how many pixels. See the photos I want you can help a lot by allowing one of yours for a print?

Great shots but I think it would be easier to have ones that are already offered as prints. Thanks

Of course, no problem. You are welcome to any of my prints for the cause.

If you care to give them some degree of self-governance, it could always be the Developing Photographers Collective (or Cooperative) : ) |

Update:
I called the Business License Department this morning. In order to get a Business License free of charge I need to register it on a Federal Level. I contacted the IRS and it is a one time fee of $150 to do this. Why would I pay $150 to be able to get a Business License free when the license only cost $75. The IRS told me all I needed to get a bank account and to make donations tax deductable was a EIN# which I now have. Now that I have that I can get a checking account. Also the registration on a Federal level takes 200 days to process. Any thoughts?

That's probably business days to boot. What do they do to make it take so long? That's worse than processing a tax return.

Talked with Ken (kpriest)on the phone today. A super nice guy and he has everything about ready to go for the website. I have a question for everyone. Do you feel I have enough in my prints section to say my profits of sales would go to this charity for a month? Or is there nothing in there you would want to buy?
I know it is very small right now but am working on it. Any thoughts would be helpful.

I setup a discussion forum and posted a few ideas. For those who wanted to be involved or if you just want to provide some input, you can register at the site: //www.developingphotographers.org/forum/ and participate in the discussions. You can't see any of the discussions unless you register and login.
Thanks.

I know you'll appreciate honesty here so I'll be truthful. There aren't any images in your prints selection that I'd be keen to buy, even for charity.
But perhaps you can ask Ken to put a PayPal Donation page on the website to allow people to donate directly using either their own paypal accounts or their credit cards?
