I don't mind comments, since I am relatively a neophyte to digital photography anything constructive is appreciated..90% of people who have commented on my pictures have given me excellent advice which I can use to improve my future shots HOWEVER, I am a little bit annoyed by a comment I received from Simonkasprzak:"not good at all...1"
Ok, so my picture sucked, but you don't need to tell me you gave me a 1, tell me why it wasn't good and give me a 1 but you needn't go for the jugular.

I mentally rate the comments I get to psychologically "get back" at the bad ones, which makes me feel a little better. Especially since my mental comment scale goes down to 0. ;-)
Nordlys
P.S. Hmmm, as a tangent suggestion for the challenge voting scale, can the scale be changed to go to 11? |

I keep a written list on the wall for things like this, two columns: "Friends" & "Enemies".

mmmm, my comment from the same person was "bad 1"
He has an average vote cast of around 3 so i think we can take his comments with a pinch of salt. A troll me thinks

Anybody with an average vote cast of 3.0583 either has an extremely high opinion of themselves or are just a - well, you finish the sentence with your favorite adjective. 748 profile views is another telling stat - he's making it onto a lot of people's lists...
I wouldn't let him get to you. He's not your typical member.

don't worry I gotthe same. "great photo if it was taken with a longer lens, on a tripod, in better weather, and it looks like there is smudges on the CCD. Sorry, there is just a lot of things wrong with this photo. 1" How on earth you can tell there are smudges on the sensor on a 640 pix pic from a 3 mp basicly point & shoot camera???
Hate to think what he marks the very bad pics!
There are plenty of good supportive photographers around here

How many times are we told never to point someone out in a thread for everyone to see. If you havew a problem with a comment then e-mail someone on SC. If it is offensive then they can take it down.

or shades, do make this photo more appealing, but because it's generally pretty dull and simple, nothing much can be done for it, 2
I deleted part of the comment not to give up my entry. |

I checked out the comments from Simonkasprzak and overall they seem to be constructive. Maybe he is having a bad day hence the stronger than usual comments on the minimalism challenge. Commenting is an art and not everyone is perfect. I think it would be useful to remember that any comment is JUST the opinion of ONE person and if you get a comment you don't like, forget about it and move on! |

Whilst we may not like (or agree with) ones, or other low votes, they do exist. If I was a very patient person, I would point you (the reader, not the thread starter) to several threads about the topic "people who give 1 or 2 should be required to comment."
That said, comments like "nice," "cool," "Good work," "that sucks," "bad 1" may not tell you a whole flippin' lot about what was good or bad, or how to fix it, but it does tell you that there is at least one strata of the worldwide population (well, the dpc population) that does not find that picture appealing. That knowledge, in and of itself, can be useful. At least to me.

Sorry I vented guys, thanks for all the support and comment...I guess it just seemed unkind but people do vary in behavior and opinion..I'll get over it...If mentioning the person's name offended anyone, I apologize, but when the contest is over, it will be openly seen, so I felt it did no harm and perhaps some good. I like the categories, Strikeslip! haha, great idea.

It's OK, Marion, comments like the one you got do have a way of making a person angry.
