you know what is funny, even though I was horrified by the results that his body had, after watching that movie I really wanted a quarter pounder and fries. I ran straight to mcdonalds afterwards. I know that was not the desired result, but damnit I was hungry.

It was a surprisingly balanced view. The diet was certainly not balanced in the slightest. Good documovie. Worth watching and making your own mind up.

Class piece of film-making. Any of you read Fast Food Nation? That's a whole lot more sinister, I think.
I think it's the root cause of a hell of a lot of problems, diet. Shit in, shit out, I guess.

I've always thought about doing the same thing...just eating MickeyD's but choosing their healthy choices. And seeing if I could lose weight.
Man, if I video tape it and actually manage to lose weight while doing so....MickeyD's got deeeeeeeep pockets and could use some positive publicity.
I bet they'd pay a pretty price for that vid....and the rights to use the tale.
*hmmmm*
I think I hear the sound of a Canon 1DS Mark II + primes from fisheye to 1200mm Canon and a few f/2.8 zooms as well as new house in the city and new house in the country. Sailboat....
"Ya know...this is an extremely tempting idea..." |

Can I suggest that you don't watch a film ('Alive', I think) about an Argentinian rugby team who are involved in a plane crash. Ben. |

the movie compares the US portions to other countries and yea, it's astounding. A large in Europe (if I recall correctly) is a small in the US. BUT, I think Canada uses the same portions as the US, too. I've seen drinks bigger than my head!

Just saw the movie tonight too! Scary the way Morgan's liver stats were going......
Has anyone every eaten Wagamama. It's japanese fast food, fresh veg, noodles etc. fabulous, tasty, and good for you. If they put a Wagamama nextdoor to every McD's noone would go to McD ever again.......! One thing I noticed on a holiday in NY was the difficulty in getting a healthy breakfast. (Maybe I didn't look in the right places!)

Wagamama, is that anything like Edo japan? I dig it..mmmm and yea, I'd have that over regular fast food. As for a healthy brekkie: good luck! If I'm out on the go and have a choice between buying my breakfast or starving - I usually starve. A show I saw the other day though said if you have to eat out for breakfast, an egg mcmuffin (without the sausage, ham, or bacon) is your best bet...not the bagel one, though. |

I think Wagamama is kinda like Edo Japan, but it doesn't do sushi :(
The hotel I stayed in, in NY, had coffee and muffins for breakfast. Round the corner were: Wendys, Dunkin Donuts....all that sort of thing but nothing healthy. I suppose I shoulda just bought some fruit.
Is it me or does the "sausage" burger in the breakfast smell bad and look like packing cardboard!?

Agreed - read Fast Food Nation a couple of years ago. A lot of that book revolved around US farming techniques in particular, but stuff that is being seen more and more in the UK. I was chatting to a guy last night who has a house in Cornwall next to a farm where they grow "free range" chickens. Free range having a technical requirement, which these guys complied with to the letter, but not in spirit: all the chickens were stuffed in a tent that was moved around the field slowly. So - thousands of chickens moved around, en masse, in a big tent. Hardly the stuff of the advertising.
The film also reminded me of Jamie Oliver's school dinners program - crusading for proper food in UK schools. They interviewed a doctor who had treated kids as young as 5 for constipation because all they ate was processed food (nuggets, reconstituted potato no veg). The kid had not managed to pass anything for 6 weeks and was throwing up half formed feces because it was the only way out. That is the kind of story that makes you eat your greens and occasionally go for the wholegrain loaf.

I always had health problems and 4 months ago I completely changed my diet to include only home cooking during the week and no sugar. I only eat sugar or junk on the weekends. And wow..what a difference. I won't tell you all the gross details, but let's just say it's a HUGE difference.
But I just had McDonalds (I've been sick and for some reason grease makes me feel better) and I'll suffer for it tomorrow. |

McDonalds ....here I come.
Very expensive here in NYC and my fries are always cold. As a chef I can say that I haven't had a MD's product that was made with any love in memory but the flavor still hooks me.

There is def. a McD's "flavour", but now all I can taste if I eat it (must be v drunk to do that) is mush. Tend to go to nice restaurants and eat nice food more often - think part of it is developing your palate ang getting used to the pleasure that is texture in food: texture is enitrely missing from every McD's option.
As for Wagamamas - I love it. Fresh food cooked fast, cheap, tasty in nice surroundings - and I can ruin all the healthy bits with a decent Asahi Superdry. A Co. that is doing well for all the right reasons. |

It isn't possible to 'cook' that stuff with love - the machines do it all; they only employ people because they can't automate it all.
and they know the flavour hooks you: you can bet they spent millions working that out. That's why they put it in there.
