| new to the site here I've been reading a lot of forums and there are many posts that just say bump...what does this mean? |

It's just used to bring a topic back to the top of the list. Any post will do but most people use 'bump'.

Bumping a post puts it back to the top of the recent posts list and stops it falling off the bottom. So in essence more people see your post.

Thanks for asking this question. I've wondered myself, but never got around to posting the question.

Another common (although I haven't seen it used here) acronym that serves the same purpose is 'TTT', which means 'To The Top' -- or just '^^^' as arrows pointing upward (also not seen here).
