Never heard that one. Interesting. I lived in San Diego for 3 years (1982 - 1984). LOVED IT! In that time, I lived in El Cajon, Chula Vista and Bonita. I also commuted down there every week for 3 months during a consulting project in 2000 - stayed in Del Mar - LOVED THAT! Hope to get down that way again this year.

Don't feel alone Ken.
I've lived here since 1982 and this was the first time I ever heard it.
Maybe Robert was grazing on a mushroom field that week...

Yeah, Brad, but my little corner of San Diego was the architecture world; it's an in-joke among design professionals. We always were bitching about how other cities-by-the-bay get great architecture to complement their physical beauty, and we get a toolbox.

Ah, San Diego. I don't get down that way often (it is in Southern California, you know) but I do remember one flight in on PSA (remember that airline?) When we got to San Diego, there was cloud cover from here to there, with just a tiny break over the airport. The pilot announced we were going in, turned the 727 into a STOL aircraft and down we went. Made it too!

Never did look at the skyline.

Holy Crap! The jet you were in hit another plane (STOL did mean short take-off & landing right?)

I wouldn't have been looking at the skyline either - I would have been looking for a cleaner set of skivvies!

*toasts BradP*

Great thread.....

I mean it is so nice to have a thread who's focus is strongly attached to an individual and for that individual to be so humble. It's refreshing...

:)

On a side note....I am selling off an Olympus E-20N with a lot of accessories. Now you can own the camera that replaced Brad's. *lol* If anyone is interested, please PM me. It is a superb choice for those who do not want to deal with lens removal but at the same time want an SLR with a lot of manual control (aperture, shutter, etc.)

Hi Lev,

I have no idea what you did submit, but had I taken that shot, it WOULD have been my submission.
That is perhaps one of the best night cityscapes of San Diego I have seen, and a new favorite now.

Brad,
thanks for kind words, and for "running" this thread - I already got my yearly subscription worth from it :)
My friends convinced me the shot was "too postcard-like", so I went with something less ordinary, and am paying for it

Oh, yes. (he made the 727 perform like a STOL aircraft, sorry) He dropped like a rock.

Thought for BradP

a) you need new camera

b) you need $$$ for new camera

c) people like your post-processing

So, offer to post process photos for people who want to have a bit of enhancement before they "post" them to prints.

OR

Start "Brad's Greeting Cards" and sell Hallmark photo styled cards...

;)

To quote someone from another thread - "Maybe just flashbacks from some LCD"

LCD Flashback Definition:
The event that occurs to your digital camera when an electronics geek roommate wants to get even by re-wiring the camera's flash & LCD preview screen.

Not hard to spot the vicims of such pranks either - they are the ones with a really good 1.8-2.0" rectangular suntan on their left (or right) cheek.

Could someone tell me if this image is better than the one I submitted to the abandoned building challenge..I have a feeling this was a better shot.
04/21/2005 06:17:09 PM · #122
I think I'm having problems with composition..I just don't know what looks good anymore! I think it's that damned old age kicking in again...suppose it must take a long time to see the symmetry and good composition...maybe I will never get it right...
04/21/2005 07:50:30 PM · #123
Hi Marion,

I agree that this could have been a better choice. Your original, as submitted was pretty harsh. Composition wasn't bad, maybe time of day would have helped, taking it earlier/later in the day so the sky wouldn't be as over-exposed.

May also have looked better in a duotone too:

----------- Before -------------------- After -----------

Hey Brad...

Wondering if I could garner your insight on the following two images.

I was pretty happy with the color tones of this one, I'm curious if you think it could be improved on in any way

This second is one of my personal favorites, it is actually a reflection in a granite headstone.

I received a couple comments to the effect of the photo feeling muddy and needing some improvement, and use of levels and USM. But I'm kinda clueless as to what to do with this one.

04/22/2005 11:28:38 AM · #125
Saj,

I've still got on my HD that reflected figure of yours, but I haven't found a way to handle it that accomplishes what youw ant to do with it. That's a hell of a thorny problem. I can, and have, made it more "dramatic" with a fuller range of tones, but the marks on the stone then dominate the image.

The tones on your building shot are rich & pure to my eye. Assuming they accomplished what you want, emotively, I wouldn't see any need to tinker with that one.

Robt.
