To Do List:
Part A - 1. Read current Challenge info 2. Take Pictures 3. Edit Pictures 4. Submit Pictures 5. View all the other submissions 6. Rate all other submissions 7. Comment on all other submissions 8. Answer nice emails thanking me for the favorable comments 9. Answer stressed out emails wanting to know what I meant about my comments 10. Check on comments on my submission 11. Send emails to those kind enough to comment on my submission - positively or not. 12. Try hard not to check on my avg score more than once per hour. 13. Learn how to use PSP8 14. Try to figure what things in PSP8 are legal to use for dpCh submissions 15. Be grateful that I have time to do this (see, there is some advantage to being unemployed - plenty of time for dpCh!)
Part B - The Forums
1] Oh, forget it!- you know what's coming in this part(you're reading this!)

Since I am new to this site I find it prudent to ask certain questions concerning protocal which may sound dumb to those of you that have been on site for awhile_SO:
Is it appropriate to email thanks to comments during the voting stage or should that wait until the voting ends?
Hmmm just one more thing for you to do kathy, answer me? |

To comment on numero ocho: I only get private messages (pm's or emails) to the comments I make on the constructive criticism end. People are always gracious and suprisingly complimentary, but inevitably defensive. Whereas I always appreciate truthful criticism, it is fun to get pm's about their work or your own.

Not a dumb question - very reasonable one. I personally prefer not to receive replies to comments during the challenge and I refrain from PM'ing commenter's during voting - even if their comments are flat out wrong, like regarding their interpretation or misreading of the challenge rules.
You may find other opinions that say it's ok if you don't try to get them to change their vote. Also, keep in mind if people don't want to receive comments, they can hide their identity during voting, so one might assume if they don't they are open to being PM'd. |

Welcome! I'm not sure how other people handle the private messages (pm); a few people respond to my comments in every challenge. I just happen to be a compulsive communicator (nice phrase for talkative!)
In the forums, so many members bemoan the fact that they don't receive many (if any) comments to back up the ratings. I try to leave as many comments as possible (it's nice to know if mine were helpful - or clear enough.)
Again, Welcome. You should have a great time with some really interesting, talented people. Kathy

Get over 10 ribbons, check
Get on sites favorite photographer list, check
Get photo in top 10 of sites favorites photograph, check
Get a top 10 photo with current camera, check (done with all 3 cameras I've used)
Score over 8, not yet
My current goals are to comment more, and to be more helpful in the forums.

I enjoy the comments for the most part, especially those that have something constructive to offer Bad or Good. It is a good feedback tool. I had one that raised my hackles just by the tone of the message, got over it pretty quick.
The helpful/encouraging... comments deserve a thanks and I just wanted to check on the protocol there. I check and wish there was a double check sometimes. Felt that it might be out of line to comment to soon, because it could be construed (sp?) as an attempt to change a vote which would be "not cool".
AND THANKS FOR THE WELCOME |
