Picking site members to pal with is one thing, I think the more important question is:

If you could only use one lens from now on, which would it be:

1) Of what you own
2) If you could buy a new one, budget not an issue

and it would be your only lens FOREVER.

Have fun dreaming -- could be educational too. ;)

damn you..
Still, I think I might have to go with Pentax's 50mm f/1.4 prime.

Sure, you'd have to do some leg work.. but I'm not generally a wildlife photographer, I love working with children and families, I like to shoot close up and personal when I can.. and I don't think I'd really miss a zoom.

LOL, an almost impossible conundrum for a comitted hardware hound like me. I would have to say my 24-70/2.8 L. I could find ways to make it work for landscape (shoot panos), portraits (no problema, just shoot!), macro (an extension tube isn't a lens, LOL), wildlife (shoot parties!)... well, you get the "picture."

Oh, but just try to find one of those in stock these days, LOL. I tried to rent one for the weekend, and couldn't even accomplish that!

I would go with this lens to... it's the lens i am looking to buy next... But it might take a while... but i guess this is a really good all around lens... and it seems to be a good lens too...

Well, for my choices:

1) Sigma 18-125, a good and very general purpose lens, just wish it were F1.8 or even F2.8 constant. Hopefully with the Rebel XT it will be easier indoors.

2) Canon 16-35L. Since there's no perfect superzoom, I'd have to settle on the wide end, and this seems like a good compromise between quality and a range of focal lengths.

right now I am in love with my 80-200L, i'd prolly go with that.

Hmmm....I'd have to go with a 28-1000mm/1.8.....if I had to pick just one.

I'd need four assistants to carry it, though........hehe....

70-200mm f/2.8L IS

If I had to pick one of the ones I own, it would be my 70-200 f4L. Even though I like to take landscapes, this has become my favorite lens.

If I could pick any lens, it would probably be the 70-200 f2.8L.

Just 1 huh?...

yep it would have to be my Nikkor AF-S-ED-G 24-120 VR.

It would have to be f/1.8 or wider, which limits me a lot.. Canon 35mm/1.4L I think. The 70-200/2.8L would be tempting too though.

Isn̢۪t using multiple specialty lenses the whole point of the SLR camera?

I guess if I just had to have one lens then it would be the EF 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM. I only wish Canon would come out with a version of this lens that went all the way to 500mm and had the newer version of IS along with a 3-position limiter switch and AF-stop buttons.

Canon 24-70mm f/2.8 - a bit long at the wide end for a dSLRs but I doubt I'd much need another lens if I had this one.

Simple....

I want an F/0.0-0.1 Zoom from 10mm-1000mm image stabilized compact lens that's less than 6 inches in length and lightweight and scratchproof.

Yup...give me that lens and I'll never upgrade again...

I would really like one of these...

Canon EF 1200mm f/5.6L USM

Or maybe this 5200mm mirror lens. At only 100kg it might make a nice walk-around lens. :)

Canon TV 5200mm f/14 lens

Size matters!!!

1) EFS 17-85
2 EF 28 - 300 L IS Nice & white. Should cover most of my needs

1) Nikkor AF-S VR 70-200 f2.8, but only because I haven't got a wideangle that is as sharp and has such smooth bokeh and focus. This one is a bit big and heavy. A wideangle would only be heavy. :)

2)Nikkor MF 35mm f1.4 AIS, but if the new Sigma AF 30mm f1.4 HSM DC is any good I might settle for that one.

3) What nobody makes for my camera: Nikkor AF-S DX VR 17-55 f2.8 (yes, that's with VR please)

Since I only own 1 lens it would have to be:

1. 28-135 Sigma Aspherical
2. 70-200 f2.8L IS USM
