Believe it or not, my brother swears by Kia. He has two of them - the minivan, and the sub-compact, and loves them both. Super cheap, and good warranty. Personally, I'd take the Hyundai first.

Bought a Toyota (rated most reliable) and haven't had a problem with it in over seven years! |

Nobody's mentioned Fiat, who managed to go from reasonable glory into the pits of hell in the latter part of the 20th century. I have owned 2 Fiats, and 850 Spyder (fun car) and a 124 sedan (workmanlike), and the sedan was about the end of it in the USA. I think the Yugo's a rebadged, older Fiat, not sure.

My friend had one. We called it the Vomit. Long story, but that stuff is hard to scrape off in the winter. |

My mom had a purple Gremlin when I was a baby. She always told me it was one of the best cars she's ever owned.

You expected something useful that costs what, $50 and is made up of leftover car parts? NEVER buy any company's entry level econobox and expect it to last! The aspire is a joke car.

Look on teh roads - what older cars do you see? The big luxo barges usually, where as if you look at new cars you see bajillions of cavaliers - whether it is the cheap cars are built cheaply or the owners don't spend any money on meaintence I cannot tell you - probably a bit of both.

My oldest friend hates Fords, loves GMs. Reliability he says. He got an 88 escort for $800 and put maybe $200 into it and beat the living sh*t out of it for 4 years and the only failures were the drivers seat back and the shift linkage. he now has a low mileage corsica...he has put $300 into it in the 2 years he has owned it and it now needs a head gasket. EVERY GM car he has owned has blown up the engine. He has had 3 Fords...no engine failures. Hmmm...not the driver/owner.

Yeah, i am partial to Ford and Chrysler. GM makes junk.
The best cars are probably Honda, Subaru and Toyota, in that order.
The worst...nissan, daewoo, anything french, VWs - in no particular order.

Old joke: ...Heard that the Yugo now comes with a rear window defroster--it's for keeping your hands warm while pushing it. :-)

As far as Daewoo is concerned, I still can't get over the fact that about two years ago, Philly Daewoo dealers had a buy one get one free special. We used to joke that the second car was for spare parts when we heard the ad on the radio. |
