This is a portrait of a horse.

I'd like you to critique it so I can improve. How can I improve the conversion, the processing, the crop and the original exposure?

Here's the original for context:

Thanks!

It could just be me, but I am not finding it easy to look at this image.
I feel both my eyes are trying to look in different directions or something.
Original exposure could be a brighter I think. Also I think that it could be cropped just after the other horse's head on the left. For processing - I don't know.

I had a run-through myself. I couldn't get any better results than what you did. Looks great!

I think there's something strange in here too. But it's rather interesting than negative. Feels like my left eye couldn't focus on the same spot as my right eye.

It's the horse in the background...it draws your eye away from the portrait horse. All the lines lead away from the subject.

I thought it was an interesting effect, though...because the 'portrait horse' looks so eerie...

Anyone else?

The fence and second horse create a vanishing point that attract your eye away from the subject. As to the conversion, I like the effect on the horse that is the subject, recrop and feature light playing on one subject. My 2c

I didn't even notice 2nd horse until reading other replies. I think the distraction of splitting the eyes of the beholder is the perspective of the fence and tree to the left. The fence is a great example of depth perspective starting very big and blending into almost nothing in the distance. The 1st horse is definately a key part of the picture but the fence and tree is the major focal point.

But what do I know

I don't think I would change much about your original edit.

This effect may help keep the "two photos" and yet enable the eye to enjoy both. Hope you don't mind my playing with it.

That's interesting...it's sort of a literal interpretation of the effect that was achieved. Neat idea.

I thought the original black and white was nice. I do however, like the framed version better. That is one example of good framing.

Just to clarify, the colour photo in the original post is the original unedited...that's why it's crooked and dull.

Here's the colour edit:
