I have the opposite reaction. when I see how scalvert or labuda or some of the other creative setter-uppers work their magic, I am even more impressed!

But now you have taken the quote out of context. It originally refered to wildlife photography.

i agree with the original sentiments and context of this as well. in fact, there was a highly entertaining string of threads back during a wildlife challenge, debating 'zoo' shots vs 'in the wild' shots...

Sorry, but others have expressed that very thought on non-wildlife shots, too. I have received many comments to the effect of, "Well, if I had known that, I would have given you a 3," and just as many that would have given me a 10. Now if you'll excuse me, I have to run to the pet store for a hamster so I can lure a hawk into my next shot... ;-)

Well Thamer's was setup, but Brad found the blue.

Most of my set-up shots don't do very well, because I'm usually too lazy or pressed for time to do a good job constructing them. these are some of the better ones ... not a 6 among them : )

I spend most of my day in the studio shooting product etc, even on location I take 5 or 6 studio lights and reflectors. When you shoot for a client, they want it the way they want. You can almost never "FIND" that shot it needs to be creaited.

Did we decide on where do you draw the line between found and setup? Take my recent challenge entry for a second:(ignore the placement and the image for the sake of a discussion)

Is this found or staged? I had to sit by the edge of the road waiting for the sheriff to stop the cars to allow some people to get into a freeway, jump in the middle of the road (I let the sheriff know that I were to do that), and take a shot - a couple of times!

SO, found or staged?

All photos are staged to some extent. You may move from one side to the other, shoot high or low, even the exposure is set up to give the correct effect. So the line is dotted.
