Ick! Cripes she took out both doors and the front quarter! Well, important thing was no serious injury, and looks like the car is very drivable, which is a plus. Nothin' a little bodywork won't fix.

just be careful, I was in a wreck where the car didnt look nearly as bad as yours and the next day I could not walk because my back hurt so bad.
The driver who hit me did NOT have insurance and was drunk. Luckily I have really good medical and auto insurance and every thing was taken care of.
Make sure you document EVERYTHING, dates, times, who you talked to and so on. I just dont want you to be hurt and not protected.
Get to the Doctor ASAP and I mean that!!!! Well not tonight, but as soon as you can get an appointment.

Hmmm, James..... some food for thought there.
I think I came to a fairly gentle stop and the only thing wrong is that I bumped my knee. But I am walking on it just fine, feels like just a bruise forming.
Guess I'll wait until tomorrow and see how I feel, but thanks for your advice and concern.
Thanks to lentil, kirbic and shannon, too. |

you have to be so careful. I had an accident once and the man who hit me was so apologetic gave me his license, name, phone number etx, admitted he was wrong, told me to get a quote and he will get it fixed. Because he was so "nice" i didnt go to the police. (here you only have 24hr to report it), i got a quote, gave it to him and he refused to pay. Told me that it was my fault. I went ballistic. I went back to where it had happened because there were alot of witnesses, and nobody would put their name to paper for my defense. I then went to police station they of course told me it was too late for them to be involved i have to go through his insurance. To cut a long story short we ended up paying. That was 15 yr ago and i am still angry about it.
Do you think i need anger managment? LOL

Come on James, should we be going to doctors because we are truely hurt or want to engage in litigation? Attitudes like that are why we have such crazy insurance rates |

Her headlight and front are smashed in, but obviously the front of her van was lower than my windows. |

I am in no way suggesting litigation. I actually hate those types of law suits.
I am more concerned for Karin's physical well being. A lady I worked with was rear ended, 3 weeks later she went to the Dr. because her neck hurt and found out she had 3 fractured vertebrae in her neck. There is NO reason to NOT go to the Dr. after an auto accident.
Sometimes small or low impact accidens like this can cause more physical problems that you would think.

| Yes James there is. Going to the doctor with no symptoms after what is clearly a fender bender is a waste of money - which drives up our insurance costs |

Looks to me its not a fender bender. I would estimate the cost to repair the car at about $3,000 to $6,000.
I really dont want to argue this as all I did was suggest she go to the Dr. to get checked out, because you never know. And I would rather be safe than sorry.

go to the doctor and document everything from how you feel to everything the insurance company and the other driver says... I had a rollover from hell and my little notebook saved me. : )

| Thank goodness there were no serious injuries except to the car. Your poor car will never be the same. |

the car isn't actually ours, it's a lease car through Boeing, that we pay a rather large monthly co-payment for.
I have spent about 5 hours on the phone today, trying to figure out what to do about the car, and what comes next.
No one knows who should handle this, everyone passed me on to the next person and back again.
It has been incredibly frustrating, worse than if we owned it and could make our own decisions.
I HAVE started keeping notes about all the endless phonecalls etc, since this thing is going to drag on and on and on.
*big sigh* |

Go to the Dr. The couple of hundred dollars that it cost to make sure that you are ok is worth it to everyone involved. I was rear ended 11 years ago. I was hit by a stopped car that had been hit from behind. At the time, I thought it was no big deal. There was about $800 damage to my rear bumper, (none of it noticable), but also enough of an impact to slightly twist the drivers seat. I didn't go to the Dr right away and was fine for a couple of weeks. They I started to notice a stiff neck. I had a few weeks of physical therapy and figured I was fine. I settled with the insurance company and went on my way. About 5-6 months later I started noticing tingling in my fingertips. At the same time, wind blowing across the hair on my arm would cause irritation or pain rather than a tickle. You should have seen people look at me as I drove with a jacket over my right arm with 100+ temperatures outside. Another month or so goes by and I wake up one morning in incredible pain. Monday morning I see the Dr., he sends me to a Neurologist, who sends me for an MRI, all on the same day. He give me Vicodin (for Pain), and Valium (so I don't care about the pain), neither of which helps at all. Results come back and Neurologist calls to say that I have crushed disks in neck pressing on spinal cord. Since it is low in my neck, there is a possibility they have to separate my ribs to get to it. By Wed morning I am in surgery having disks removed and 3 vertabrae fused together with a titanium plate. Luckily, everything went well and I didn't need any medication at all after surgery. 11 years later I am still plauged with frequent stiff necks and fingertips of right hand still have nerve damage. I had already settled with insurance company and luckily I had good medical coverage to take care of it. I don't know if going to the Dr. asap would have identified a problem or not, and there is still no way to know if the neck problems were a direct result of the accident, but I think if there is any question at all, a Dr. visit is in order. Also, I am not a big fan of suing someone for an "accident" but, be careful of settling with the insurance company. Sometimes it take some time for injuries to become appearant and the insurance company will want you to sign a settlement as soon as possible to reduce the liability to their company.
Just my 2 cents. (I know, it was more like $2.50!)

Being an ER RN...wellllllllll......ummmmmm....never mind.
Oh yeah...go to your MD, not the ER, unless it is what that first word means....Emergency. that means life or limb threatening.

... An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure..., so please do go and get yourself checked out if you feel any discomfort whatsoever. I am glad to hear that you did not suffer any major injuries, that is the most important thing as metal can always be replaced.
The unfortunate thing about incidents of this nature is that you may not feel any discomfort today or tomorrow, but experience some major pain in the future.
