Hickory Motor Speedway Panorama
I have never really been into the panorama stitching game, but I shot THIS ONE last weekend and was pretty satisfied with the results. I tried stitching with the PhotoStitch software that came with my camera, but it didn't do so great. I bought another program called PanaVue that really does a nice job. The first photo I linked here isn't finished yet. I haven't post processed it other than the stitching, crop, and resize. |

John,
Did you hand-hold it, or use a tripod? It stitched pretty nicely except for the 71 car. I like the effect. Watch out though, panos are addictive!

These are handheld. I am glad u saw that on the 71 car because I didn't. I'm gonna have to try to sort that out before I order prints... |

I do! I like these a lot John.
I have found that my taking my 35-140mm (equiv) lens back just a tad from the 35mm setting, the barrel distortion dropped way down and the stitching got a lot better.
I have a couple of panoramics in my prints and have a 60"x12" in hand. They do a great job at DPCPrints.

I bet they do look nice. Have you framed the 60x12 prints yet? This one will work out to 12x40. The printed area will be 8x36 and I plan to have a 2" white border around it. I want to mat it with 1/4" of white showing with a title block cut at the bottom. I don't like to go over 40" on a long side because mat board and glass in sizes longer than 40" gets expensive. |

Ok little question bout this!
Do you use photoshop to put them together, or is there any sort of program that does that automatic?
Cz my attempts at it weren't that good! I used photoshop to put them together, or STICH as stated before on this thread!

That is neat in the B&W on that panorama John. The other one is really nice too with all the cars in color lined up around the track. . The panoramic gives a lot more view to the track. Are there a lot of people involved with that race track interested in buying prints? .. Just being curious to see how you maybe marketing your prints and such.

I don't know what I plan to do with this one yet. I'll probably give one to the lady who manages the race track because she's quite nice to me when I go down there. If she likes it, I may ask for an opportunity to put some in their gift shop. I'm gonna frame the b/w version of the cars lined up for myself. |

Hi John,
I haven't had it done yet, but the cost will be whatever it is.
Every year at the end of the wrestling season, the team members chip in for the coach's gifts, and when Donnie saw
,
he instantly knew that was what he wanted as his. (was taken from his deck one morning).
(I'll be curious on the cost.)
He will be receiving the matted & framed one at the awards banquet, and will have that one in his office. A second copy he will be framing himself for his home, (he is an avid woodworker) out of some of his burnt fence boards from the fires we had in So. CA in Oct 2003.

Hi John,
I used Olympus' Camedia software that came with the camera. The small veiwable size almost makes it look like there are shadows / misalignments, but there are none. I was real careful about each shot in the series being at the same level (hand-held).
Some days I get lucky.
Did another also that came out well in print:

The Canon software didn't do so well, but I'm dealing with photos that have a lot of foreground detail. I guess that makes it challenging to stitch. The PanaVue worked much better but it's not perfect. I'm going to try a few more later... |
