Okay, now that we have a choice, what are most of you going with? I know that the "BLACK" has the mystique of being "PROFESSIONAL" and the silver has tradionally been associated with a cheaper camera. But I went into best buy and they had both. I kinda liked the silver. I don't know why, I just think it looked tough. I had originally thought I would get a black one, but now I don't know... and a week until my taxes come back... what to do, what to do...

The silver one won't take as good a picture as the black, it's proven!

black is definetely by far superior not only in terms of image quality and features but also style, self esteem, professionalism and most importantly dpc-coolness-factor

Being an owner of a silver 300d, I would probably go in preference with black next time. On the top of the flash, my camera rubs against my (fabric) camera case and the black plastic underneath is starting to show through. |

Yeah, I thought the consensus might be black. Only because of the enhanced features an sharpness. lol.
and simon, that was a really good point. I really never thought about that. an actual practical reason for the black.
SDW, I have been trying to answer that question for myself. I have a slightly higher budget, but I think I am going with the 17-85 and the 70-200 4.0 "L". totalling about $1100 for the glass. That pretty well covers the lengths I need. And that "L" is supposed to look super sharp. I have had a lot of fun learning about lenses. All those threads I used to ignore I have gone back and searched through extensively. I can't wait to join the DSLR world.

Edit:oops, I forgot the 50mm. A must have.

Black. As if there is any real option. That is, unless you want to be a NON-Badass.

You mean no one else paints theirs or puts stickers all over their camera from the different locations they shoot at? I really am all alone in my world.

The black is cool, but the silver is awesome if you put those little pink and yellow flower decals on it.

you know what is funny? The reason I was open to it in the first place was you. lol. I remembered seeing that on your signature. I didn't remember who had it on there, but when I saw the silver one in real life I thought, well SOMEBODY else thinks it is cool. It is always nice to have someone else who will make your choices legitimate. However, when shooting with pros, which I do from time to time I know that black will get a little more respect. I have had to live with the Inferiority of an F828 for a while now... I just don't know... lol.

You really think that having a black camera will get you more respect? Come on everyone...pick one you like, get it, and get over it. Why does it matter what color your camera is? And if anyone gives someone more respect based on the color of your camera, that person is bordering on being an idiot. I'll paint my camera pink and it'll still put out the same pictures it does now -- if anyone thinks otherwise, they're severely mislead. I think you would gain respect from what you show after the fact. If someone shows up with a 1ds mark II and has severely out of focus, horribly composed, wrongly exposed pictures and I show up with a 1 MP P&S and get 50 quality 8x10's I think I'll earn some respect. Get on with it -- pick a color and buy it.
